Buying a Rifle

Rifle will be used for Deer/Elk in Mountains and for Long Range Work, 30-06 (208gr Amax @ ~2650), Scope will be a Primary Arms 4-14X44mm Riflescope - ACSS R-Grid Reticle PA4-14XFFP-R-GRID or similar

off-hand my short list is:

Tikka T3 Lite SS
Weatherby vanguard 2 SS
Winchester XPR
Savage 111 or Axis II

I will be getting a new stock or chassis for any rifle I get and I will most likely thread the barrel myself for a muzzle brake/silencer.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this subject?

well it will be in 30-06 and shoot a round with a hell of a lot of recoil. was there a particular 700 you had in mind for the job? why would you go with a Remmington?

no reason in particulars. buddy has as .243 and it's really nice. uses it for deer and coyotes and whatsnots. had it sighted in not too long ago (since I used it) and says it's a dream.
or fuck it, get a Mak-90 from the chinese and go nuts on that elk game. won't be any meat left but who cares.

The Remington 700 is also what the Marine Corps uses to make M40 sniper rifles and the Army to make the M24 if that means anything

If you've got the cash, get a weatherby 300 win mag. If not, go with a remmi 700. Either way, your optics should rival the cos of the rifle.

I mean even if you want to eat it after you shoot it, it is not like you can't get meat from the grocery store. You don't have to kill a wild free deer to make a sandwich.

Frankly, it is sociopathic to want to go out and kill an animal without necessity.
