they interviewed the punter later. apparently, the original idea was to draw the pats off-guard and sneak past or get them on too many men on the field if they tried to switch units; if that didn't work, just take the delay of game penalty. however, the original center (or the safety/QB, i forget which) got hurt, while the new guy had no idea that was what was supposed to happen, hence the shitshow
