New data Wednesday from research firm IDC found that Apple's share of the global market slid to 13.2 percent in the second quarter from 16.6 percent in the year-earlier period. Handsets running Android, meanwhile, jumped to 79.3 percent from 69.1 percent.
Wtf, for real, am I reading this right?  I had no idea androids were that dominate as you see iPhones everywhere.  Wow.

Also, iPhone fucking blows.  Android 4eva.

Android devices range from $50-600. So of course most devices  are android. The  iPhone is still the single most popular phone.

nearly everyone i talk to on a daily basis has an iphone. i'm talking 90%. it's quite possibly the college-age bias though.

i personally have an iphone 4s, but i also have a Google Nexus 7. iOS and Android both have their ups and downs for me.

My personal phone is Samsung Galaxy S3 and my work phone is an iPhone 4.  The difference is night and day.  I get the impression that iPhone is for people who want to fit in, because it seriously has no upside and no feature that is superior to any feature on the S3.

I think people just pick it because they don't have much knowledge of tech and phones and just pick something safe.

Bought ("bought" as it was free w/ 2-year contract) a new RAZR M yesterday. Rooted it today. Seems pretty spiffy, but then again I'm upgraded from a very entry-level android phone so anything would seem so.

I'm also extremely anti-apple for a multitude of reasons. iPhone users seem to be, as EM mentioned, only in it to 'fit in'.

I have been using Android phones only...but, I have been considering trying an iPhone. I have never used an iPhone, so I don't have the experience to compare.

Might as well give one a shot if I can get it for free or for a good deal. Why not.

What the hell does "rooting" a phone mean?

it's like jailbreaking an iphone.

it's unlocking access to the root of the system, so you can decide which apps you want, and delete the ones you don't. it also allows you set the clocks, and move apps onto the sd card.

i wouldn't own a phone that i couldn't have root access to.

Had em both, prefer having complete control over my stuff (remove any app, block ads, stop ota, etc). Both are fine though, innovation is pretty much stalled. "Features" now are mere gimmicks. Also ...

Why wouldnt you just uninstall them from google play? otherwise, remove or freeze them using titanium backup

It is a real pain to have to download apps through googleplay instead of directly from the web using the phone's browser. I know it is to prevent security breaches and stuff but I doubt CNN is going to try to steal my Amazon account.

You can browse google play from your computer to download and install directly to your phone

called "nobloat", do a back and delete, can always restore

You also need to kill OTA updates if you don't want more garbage or potentially your root undone.

titanium is the premium choice if you are willing to pay, well worth it
