as for drinks, rum and coke is always good. mojito or gin+soda+simple syrup+lemon juice if it's hot out. but i'll take a beer over a mixed drink most of the time.
depending on the strength, whiskey on the rocks or neat is good as far as straight alcohol goes

rum & ginger = windrush's best contribution to world culture.
I know many people consider it a girls drink but I don't care. My preferred mixed drink is a long island iced tea. It taste good and gets the job done.
i don't really understand the gendering of certain drinks as 'macho' or 'feminine'. it seems extremely insecure, part of some arbitrary social ritual for the mass of uncertain and unquestioning people to follow. i don't really get what is 'manly' about pounding 12 tiny cans of 4.0% piss-water from some 'lite' company in the states.

some men look for their manhood at the bottom of a bottle.
hmm, sounds familiar...

i hardly ever drink cocktails, they are way too expensive a way to get drunk (especially in london, where they're like $20-30 each). i'll drink decent beer or wine. maybe cider if i'm at home in the country and feeling rustic.
yeah its expensive as fuck drinking that shit in aussieland too, cheaper to get pissed on the beers.Uzique The Lesser wrote:

i just make mojitos at home when i got friends over.
I love rum cocktails, especially over ice. Some of them are affordable at bars i've been to. People consider certain drinks feminine because women or men usually drink them. You don't usually see women pounding cans of beer. It's stereotypical and I don't agree with it but it exists.
There's a bar by my friends place that makes a Black Power Whiskey Sour: whiskey sour with Jim Beam Black and blackcurrant puree. Delicious.
20-30 per cocktail? damn. I thought the 7-10 we pay here was steep. Even at the nicest places it's hard to top 15.
