BF2S Forums An indictment of the US higher education system

As a product of home schooling, private, and public school systems, I have to say that home schooling was the most efficient use of time.  The private school had higher standards that the public system, but the public system had more options and resources. 

I was ahead in some subjects and slightly behind in one when I switched from home to private school.  I was ahead by over a year in a couple subjects when I switched from private to public.  The public school had more varied classes with a better potential to branch out in specific areas though.

As many know Bernie Sanders wants to pay $80 billion a year in order to fund free college education for all. I think this would be a god awful idea. I will spare you another rant about it.

How would everyone feel about an increase in the size of pell grants or a program to provide means tested full scholarships? I think this would be the best way to increase access. Reforms to how colleges spend their money will make sure tuition doesn't balloon from there on.

What do you think?

There's a new statute going into effect starting January 1, 2017 that ups the punishment when students get into a fight.

The change means that if your student is caught fighting once they return back to school, they will get jail time.

Right now, if a student gets into a fight and hurts another person, they're charged with a misdemeanor and then released to their parents.

However, with the new law going into effect on January 1, that student will now head to a juvenile detention center and be charged with a Class E felony.

That means they could spend up to four years in jail.

Sikeston DPS Sergeant Jon Broom said he hopes this new rule will make students think twice before getting into a fight.

“A felony down the road is something that will definitely hamper you down the road for sure," Broom said.

Pathway to frivolous arrests. School administration sucks at figuring out who started what. Punishment is doled out on hearsay and favoritism. Have fun getting a criminal record for being punched in the face, kids.

Wow, there you go again with that. Make sure you're all classy with a button-up shirt and a belt while trashily making out with the substitute teacher in the break room or whatever.

He has a point though, doesn't he? It is gender discrimination of a sort. Other students there support him in this. Perhaps the board should review some of the gender-based grooming standards still in place and axe or revise anything with that condition. It's not the 1950s anymore.

A country where you can earn maybe fifty bucks in a week in some of the more poverty-stricken areas. But at least they pleased Macbeth with their shaven heads.

i’ve never met someone who hates his own ethnicity/background as much as macbeth before. it’s probably even a contributor to his near-constant psychic disequilibrium.

i thought jay was the arriviste manqué but it turns out macbeth is the one who is really gunning for middle america. whether it’s a yacht club or a policeman’s ball, macbeth is just begging to submit to the mores (and dress codes) of the white man.

Dreadlocks aren't a part of my culture. And as I said before I have plenty of spite for white people too. I just don't express it here because it wouldn't go over well and you don't notice it when I do.

I never liked online classes, personally. I need face to face interaction.

Live online can be decent, but archived requires a level of discipline that i lack.

i have never taken an online class but i have a friend who does copywriting and UX design for them. very lucrative industry.

mostly seems to have taken off in the corporate training environment rather than as a replacement for full-time education.

Just curious Mac, is your district now streaming lectures? I know here in Ontario there was an initial push back from the teachers' unions, but once they got the technology and lesson plans worked out it seems most teachers are doing alright with it. Not great, but good considering the circumstances.
