I'm not sure if it could work or not, just stick with the EU in its present form until everybody becomes used to being more "European" and less Dutch/German/Finnish/etc

I don't think it would be the largest economy, it would be just about even with the US. I highly doubt the largest military part. Many European nations seem to spend more on social stuff than defense. Also Europes economy is not fast growing, it is lower than that of the US. Kyoto is going to have a negative effect also on many European nations trying to implement it, at a lost of jobs and GDP going down.
It would be nice to see a more United Europe, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon. Even it if it was united, it wouldn't really be any better economically or militarily, Europe would probably have a better economy with less socialism imo.

Sure, the US is not very far from it, but EU is the biggest and strongest economy in the world. The largest threat right now is China. And one of the biggest, not the biggest armies.... Our economy growing rate would be twice of the US one if it weren't for germany. They're slowing us down. And sure, our GDP may be rather low right now, but that is because like 10 eastern european countries joined like 2 years ago. But they are growing like hell right now, comparable to India and Russia. And sure, the economy would be better with less socialism, but would the people? Just look at the USA.Random-Hero58 wrote:

It seems like a great idea, however I dont think it will ever work. Theres too many different types of people. What about a national language? At least most people in the US speak English. What would be the primary language spoken in the USE? It really does sound like a good thing to combine all European countries to create a Superpower but I just dont see everybody getting along and playing as a team. Maybe in the short run but long term definately not. But you never know, just look at the USA. We have 50 little countries bound together and it seems to work out fine most of the time. as my grade 10 social studies teacher put it, we call them states rather than countries because they still want to look like they get along.
I think it would be a nice thing to have two largely democratic superpowers. On an offnote, the Soviet Union wasn't an attempt at a union multiple mini-governances in a fashion similar to that of the USA, as it wasn't democratic.

Can I ask what the real point of a sovereign EU is? It already practically is one economy - we no longer talk about 'trade to the UK' or 'trade to France' (unless its a paticular product. But say something like steel, which we have a lot of and they not so much) - we talk about 'trade to the EU'. And the success of NATO tells me that there will not be a war between the more powerful EU/NATO countries in the forseeable future.

I don't think it will work. For one thing I doubt enough people in the UK would want to join this USE. Look at the Euro, we were all against joining that, and now it's a few years later and there's still no intention of joining.
