at all.
The computer has terrible targeting priority AI. Early on, just garrison a few people in town hall and lead the enemy around in circles with a single militiaman.Naturn wrote:

I find myself wishing they did a bit more to modernize the interface rather than just spruce up the graphics and such. I don't mean making it look like a new RPG because for that we could just ask for AoE 4. I mean little changes like being able to use 0 as a unit hotkey and being able to select as many units as you want, or all the units on the map with one key/button press. Just stick the checkbox for these options in a lobby or, for single player, in the options menu.
Also, the AI is just as dumb as it was before.
e: Also, wanna garrison gun users in buildings? They still drop their guns and pull out bows.

Bought the legacy pack. Never played AoE3. Not going in with high expectations so I might be pleasantly surprised.
imo, aoe3 is a great example of how many games nowadays are basically pretty downgrades of old favorites. You didn't miss much
I got it for £1 and I played it for maybe 3 hours.
It's definitely no AoE2.
I've already sunk a fair amount of time into this HD version, but like Unnamed, I do wish they'd fix the little things, such as:
Select more than 40 units
Bigger map sizes (we have bigger unit sizes)
Building queue creation while placing buildings (maybe I'm doing this wrong, but I have to place all buildings I wanna build (even while holding shift) and THEN shift-click the build order)
Lobby privatisation that works - I still get randoms join my games when it's set to private or friends
Also, when I host games, they're pretty lag-free, but when a wolf comes into combat with anyone, everyone lags. Two or more wolves is a very slow process.

The best of the AoE series was AoE2. AoE3 was great for the spectacle of watching things blow up. When it came out, I could watch cannonballs take buildings apart piece by piece all day.
aoe3 is a great rts, it has the problem of being the successor to aoe2 though.

It is lame as shit when the AI doesn't fight itself in death match games. It is like I'm playing 1v7. They are even building on top of each other.
AoE3 was pretty good I guess.
isn't there a "free for all" setting that makes it do that?Macbeth wrote:

I beat a computer on standard. YES
Regicide?
standard
I laugh when the CPU gg's and taps out after you destroy one building.RTHKI wrote:

or when an ai stays in the dark age
That's what I do.
You can't be that bad Adam. The game is rape rape rape at standard.
Try playing a map with islands. The AI can't properly do sea invasions.
True "1999 mode."
