Star Wars 1313 looked like it was gonna be good, though I've also heard it might be saved by another studio because it's so far along.
the remake of it?
I am so getting it
@ziqie, Ive never played any quaqe ( exept 4 SP demo, and QW demo was told it was gunna be NEXT BATTLEFIELD ZOMG) but I can't see why
would be so different from quake, tried it at Dreamhack summer 2012 (alpha version) and if you haven't tried it I STRONGLY recommend you doing so, it's a real good competitive (spelling?) game.

That looks pretty cool. I shall be trying that out shortly.
it was meant to be the big esports replacement to quake, but the game mostly sucks.thepilot91 wrote:

it looks like shit, feels like shit, there's way too much visual clutter, and the movement doesn't have anywhere near the appeal/refinement of quake. also part of the skill of quake comes from the fact there are about 7-8 solid weapons you can/must rotate, plus lots of power-ups you have to time and capitalize on. shootmania is basic and shitty and none of the maps are good at all. it's a total failure.
technically for 1v1 difficulty/complexity, team fortress 2 is more advanced than shootmania. which is pretty funny considered tf2 was designed to be a solid team-based game, and shootmania was meant to be all 'omg esports'.

Is Fatality still around? He got kicked out of a tournament for using meth to sharpen up his senses before a game.
really? got a link? would be interesting to see.
& nah, people kind of think of him as a joke now. he was a poster-child for like the early days of quake gaming, but a new generation rapidly came up and bettered him. last i heard of fatality a bunch of quake live pros were laughing at him, because he was caught practicing regularly in public servers (i.e. free shooting range for 6 hours a day). he lost it. but then again, he made so much money, i don't really see what else he had to prove.
the above russian guy was one of the best for a while, but he retired a few years back. played quake for 10+ years. made about $500,000. not bad. he works for a luxury car dealership now in moscow, selling jaguars and mercs to bourgy ruskies. true russian.

It's good fun. Played it for about half an hour on the "Beginner" server (FFA) and picked it up pretty fast. Won a fair few rounds. I like the mechanics in regards to conserving shots to fire more at once, etc.
Reminded me of Unreal Tournament I shall probably keep playing it.

it is nowhere near as complex as even UT, let alone quake. it's an insult that it's the best people could design nowadays for a 'purpose built' esports title. also it still looks, even today, like the animation work was done by a college-student on a part-time course.

have you personally tried it?
yes. it was the massive 'omg next esports' game about a year ago. i am normally more than willing to entertain these sorts of things, because i really want a new FPS esport to come back into the fore. however this is pitiful. it's insulting.
Yes, I have - as I said..?
I really can't see why this would be be so horrible, no it isn't a replica of Quake but this and CSGO is a fucking breaktrough in these times we live in where COD and WOW rules the gaming...I can't see any reason to be upset because someone is releasing a "better" game (not perfect) for the fps genre, I am really happy this came out , hopefully it'll raise other/bigger game-developers eyes a bit (probably not tho)

sorry I should have "quoted" ziqz
Oh, I didn't see.
But yeah, it's cool. Is there a 2v2 "lobby"?

this game and cs:go are breakthroughs? wow. no on so many levels.thepilot91 wrote:

WoW rules gaming? WoW has been dead for several years.
CS:GO is worse than CS:Source in every single way. which was, arguably, worse than cs1.6. how is it a breakthrough? it's a CONSOLE game.
and this shootmania crap is a joke, frankly. it is a SIMPLIFICATION of a quake style game. again? breakthrough? how do you call cutting down a game that has been out for pretty much 20 years into a simple and boring version a 'breakthrough'? you must be simple.

You're obviously not understanding..let's SIMPLIFY :
do you think COD/CODDELFIELD/ MMORPGS (WoW wannabes) rules the current gaming industry (Y/N) ?
do you think COD/CODDELFIELD/ MMORPGS (WoW wannabes) rules the current gaming industry (Y/N) ?
no i don't. i think MOBA's and SC2 and other stream-friendly games currently rule the games industry.
ok...lucky you
doesn't have anything to do with me. i don't play them. but cod/bf/wow do not 'rule the games industry'. maybe in 2005, or 2008, at a stretch. call of duty isn't supported as an esport anymore at all. bf2 was a flash in a pan, esports wise. counter strike source barely has any more tournaments or prize-pools; cs1.6 has been the biggest counter strike game in terms of community and esports for like the last 3 years. way bigger than cs:go. quake live was a momentary revival of an old 1v1 format, but the bottom-end of that fell out a year or so ago as well.
esports is all moba now. league of legends, dota2, and lots of starcraft 2 for the rts fix. it's because they're all spectator friendly and a whole generation of fat-arses can sit around watching other people play the games, instead of them. FPS is completely dead now. the last esports fps was team fortress 2. shootmania is nowhere near good enough to drag it back, though they made lots of efforts to make it as stream- and spectator-friendly as possible. but it still blows. to talk about cod/battlefield/wow is a joke.

gaming industry = games that sell
I don't talk about what games people like to watch being played
