Received my first grad school acceptance today. Word on funding will be in by Friday with the official package. I avoid being homeless for another little while at least. Success.

Queen's for policy studies. The redeeming factor is that the professor who has offered to supervise wants me to work on Canadian culture in any form of print. My proposal was pretty open-ended, but he seems to be willing to support whatever direction I take.
I'm still waiting on U of T just to see what kind of offer I get from them (if any). I'll make a decision by the end of March.

Yeah, wanted to until I realized how hard funding would be to come by. I would have done Public Policy there. A cool 70,000 (CAD) for 1 year. Looking at the grades, I think I would have been at least competitive. No way in hell I'd win a Rhodes or any other major scholarship, but I was hoping to at least not live in poverty for the next 10 years paying off student loans. At the least I'd eat 50,000 of debt, all while trying to start a career/real life.
We'll see if I want another degree after this. There's nothing saying I can't take a second masters, which I very well may for the hell of it. I'd be for sure looking at doing an MA in eng lit.

An MA here in Canada isn't that difficult to fund. There are enough scholarships to get by, and each of the two years only run about 20k (CAD) including housing, meals, tuition, and books. Beyond this, they almost always have the grads working as either teaching assistants or research assistants, paying at about 4k/semester.Uzique The Lesser wrote:

And yeah, I'll come over to oxford for sometime next week. How are your afternoons on Thursdays? Have them frame my degree nicely this time, the last one I picked up had a god awful 1.5inch mat that was simply not of the off-white tone I had asked. I'll need it by yesterday.
