I'd fly instead of a bus to the Gold Coast, although the only cheap flights with either Virgin or Jetstar are at night time (don't fly Tiger. Qantas is more expensive).

Actually, I'd just fly everywhere. But I guess the bus would be a good way to see the country.
Sorry, must not have said it.
My $630 includes flying to and from gold coast, bus will be between Melbourne and Adelaide, and probably back to Sydney.

Yeah bus should be fine. You lose a day each time that could be spent doing stuff, but it's a good way of checking out the country (which you wouldn't do if you were flying).

Having said that though I reckon the drive from Sydney to QLD is better than Melb to Sydney.

Yeah. Bus Melb to Adelaide is around 10 hours. Bus from Adelaide to Sydney at my guess would be around 15 or more. If it's overnight then that works I guess. How much is the bus?

I would consider the train as well as the bus.

On a train you can get up, walk around, buy beer and snacks etc, and if you travel premium have plenty of space.
In premium it will be all old people, in standard mostly backpackers and ferals.

For me the train Adelaide-Melbourne sucked but I think it might be better than a bus. Then again on a bus you might see a few outback towns.
The train Adelaide - Alice I enjoyed.

Is that the Ghan? I've heard good things about it. Never been to the NT though.

Also, if you're after a look at the 'outback' you won't see barely any of it, if at all, on any buses. You'll see towns, 'mountains' (I use the term loosely because our mountains aren't like what you get in Europe or NZ), bush land / forest etc.

All the typical 'outback' (ie. desert) that foreigners talk about is mostly confined to western QLD, much of the NT and SA, northwest NSW and almost all of WA

Yes, I thought it was good, but bloody expensive.

And the track is not great, it was like trying to sleep in a concrete mixer.

I'd like to visit Alice one day. My Japanese exchange student housemate went there a few months ago. He was pretty surprised I'd never visited Uluru (or Ururu as he called it )

Fuck it, decided to save time and fly everywhere. Might try and get in the flight deck if they'll let me.
About A$600 though..

Flight deck, as in cockpit? Good luck, lol. I think they stopped doing that in the 80s.

I have an airside pass and company ID, I know certain companies will allow it if you are in the industry.
And yeah, cockpit has too much.... cock

I've flown a lot domestically and never seen in happen. I think I did it once when I was 6 or something.

We've got some pretty big bushfires happening right now. Flying will be the best option for sure.

Yeah we do. And we run on 240v power.

The good thing is your phone will charge more than twice as fast (or when I was in the US more like twice as long )

Win!

Most devices I own are rated 110-240v. The one I can think of that doesn't (cheap shaver) is rated 230-240v so I think with an adapter you're sweet.

Wait, you have a shaver that only does 240? That's like, the first thing that went 110-240.

It's was $15 from Target like six years ago (just a general hair shaver, I used it to keep my beard neat). I've since received a much better one for xmas.

Visit this shoe tree in the Nullarbor Plains.
By foot.
Leave your shoes there.
Then walk back barefoot.

Good trip was good.
Problem with 'Straya is that so many people go there for a long time, that there is always something someone recommends you do that you don't have time for.
Came back with more money than I thought I would, but that's partly due to travelling on my own, didn't go out as much. Met a lot of people, but most were on work visas and had no money to go do a lot of stuff.
Swam with turtles and eagle rays, saw some tennis (apparently some sort of big thing), flew a plane, saw some cool beaches and got drunk many times with my mates in Adelaide which was the best section of the trip!
Worst was the 40 hour journey to get home. I never want to get on a plane again.

You went to the Australian Open? Nice one.

I found the same when I went to the US. Tried to get as much in as I could but you can only be in so many places over a limited time frame.
