In an effort to save gas, she has introduced a bill to cut NY's speedlimit back down to 65mph. to me its only a pathetic attempt to collect more money from folks speeding. I dont see anyone doing 65 when im on the highway these days, 80 is about the norm.

She has done absolutely NOTHING deserving even a thought of running for Prez.

Dude, there are a ton of things to bitch about on her. This is waht you got?! The speed limit? In my state thats the tops everywhere. Maybe 1one bit of I95 where it says 70mph.

What is the speed limit right now? You said they do 80. Is that the limit as it stands today in NY?

It does actually save gas to slow down to 55.

DUMB, however true.

Another point you need to consider.  All the trucks the bring our everyday goods around the country.  Slower speed equals longer times to get fro point a to b.  Which means they will need more trucks to keep up with the demand.  Which means you will burn more gas.

Again, dumb.

Speedlimits are good...less people get killed.

But hey, who cares about dead people if you get to places earlier.

56 mph is the maximum on highways here, we have around 10-20 people dying yearly in car accidents.

I actually saw a story yesterday about Senator Clinton possibly proposing a bill to tax oil companies profits and use the taxes for research of alternative energy. I think this is one of the best ideas I've heard yet, and if she runs in 2008 she will probably get my vote. The Clintons are smart people, and political stars, no matter how sleezy or fucked up they are.

As far as lowering the speed limit, thats a pretty bad idea. People in my area, Northern Virginia, do not drive below 70 mph. I just got a wreckless ticket a couple months ago and last night and tonight I have to waste 4 hours in a court ordered driver improvement class. Fucking worst 8 hours of my life.

I say, let the people decide how to save gas.  If I can't afford to drive 80, I'll drive 65.  If I can, why the hell not?  the speed limit is the MAX speed.  not the ONLY speed.

That having been said: If you're not going 80 mph GET THE FUCK INTO THE RIGHT LANE

Taxes are never the answer.

If you raise a tax on something, people will sell/buy/consume less of it simply to avoid paying taxes on it.

senators should be required to take a class on economics each year they are in term.

You do know, that by going 70 instead of 60, you are increasing the chances of fatality if in an accident by over 500% or something alike

Oh great land of the free, where women can be whatever they want so long as they don't mind being mocked and derided.  Go Team USA, you mock that woman!  How dare she be female and a politician!

Aim:  To reduce the use of petroleum products, thereby lessening the impact of humans on the environment.

Proposal:  Increase taxes on said products

Outcome:  a)  More money is put into alternative fuel research, thereby hastening the implentation of less                   .                    harmful fuels
.
.                    or
.
.                b)  In an effore to avoid paying taxes, less petroleum based products are used.

Aaaaaaaah.........where's the problem?

Ah.......no.  In effect, you have the same number, but rather than getting that from one truck driving multiple times, you get it from multiple trucks driving once.  Tonnage remains the same.

Hence the reason higher taxes on oil companies will help to replace said oil with a better fuel. True.

But in the short terms, Americans stop consuming oil? False. I don't care if the shit is 5 bucks a gallon. We will pay. We sure has heck aren't going  to ride a bike or walk. Well....the majority of us lazy ass's aren't.

lol................. I dont give Karma in the  'Debate and Serious Talk'   but I have to for that one, made me laugh my arse off.  +1

About the transportation of goods on the roads.......... to keep this beautiful capitalistic world economy of ours going, we need exports and imports.  For example 50% of the UK's milk is exported to France. We then import roughly the same amount of milk from France. Thats alot of milk and alot of logistics. The same is common in all developed nations. If we all eat from our local producers and farmers we wouldnt need half the trucks on the road. But peeps want a feckin Kiwi in off season, so it must be flown to us generating roughly 4 times its own weight in carbon............. Just go eat a feckin apple instead from the farm down the road. We want want want want...................rant over.

Give me a break.  If you really live in Iceland, than your entire country is smaller than a medium sized US state.   What does it take to get from one coast to the opposite side?  Maybe 3 hours?  That's a bad day's commute in Chicago.

Not to mention your vicinity to the arctic circle, leading to more difficult and unsafe driving conditions.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Um... the NYS speed limit is 55mph, with 65mph allowed on certain interstates (which in turn forfiet state funding for repairs, or something like that).  So I don't know what this talk of is about reducing the speed limit back down to 65.

If you dont like the limit in your state move to Texas. We are bumping highways from 75 to 80mph and smaller roads from 60 to 65mph.

So now I can do 90 on the way to work and not get pulled over.

That and Iceland probably doesn't pass out driver's liscense to anyone that can stand up in line long enough like we do in the states.

Hell, you don't even really have to be able to read the stop sign to be able to drive through it at 90mph.
