You could try one of the new Razer blackwidow ultimate stealth edition. They have cherry browns, are backlit, and have changed the finish from piano to matte. Ive got one of the older ones with the cherry blues and it holds up just fine, would rather have the browns though.
I been using the Saiteks for little while, the Cyborg is a pretty decent keyboard.
"Razer blackwidow ultimate stealth edition"?
This is a joke, right?

razer in a nutshell
Nope no joke. Razer=Brand name, Blackwidow=Keyboard name, Ultimate=backlit version, Stealth= Brown switches instead of blue. Edition may or may not be on them just figured it would be. Don't care about a name other than allowing you to get the right product.
If he wants backlit and zowie doesn't offer one, then zowie is off the table. So drop the keyboard snobbery. I don't remember seeing another backlit keyboard with browns so this is the best suggestion from me. If you know one, put it out there. The whole zowie r teh real, razer and other r teh shit debate has been done as much as gun debats in d&st, leave it behind already.
If you can kill bf2 with a stock hp pos board, a Razer Mech will kill any game just fine.

i love my saitek eclipse 2. neener
I have the original folding screen G15, the backlighting on it isn't that great but it's better than nothing.
Definitely thinking about getting a mechanical keyboard next after all the good stuff I've heard about them on one of the related threads here.

Nice! I didnt know CM had a mech keyboard. This isnt the one where only the WASD keys are mech though? Are you able to access the bios with yours? One of the comments said it took to long for the keyboard to boot up to access the bios.jsnipy wrote:

Paint wore off the keys on mine, felt cheap. Other than that was fine. Not a fan of Mad Catz products though.Kimmmmmmmmmmmm wrote:

It responds immediately and works in the bios just fine. No all the keys have switch (not sure about space bar). Followed 13rin's suggestion on it-Whiteroom- wrote:

I think I remember this thread...
F and J, my friend.I just want a standard keyboard with backlighting so I can use it in my room at night with the light out and know what keys I'm pressing if I get my hand out of position when gaming (or sometimes typing onto forums and I get over one key from where I think I am).
Pretty sure I'm going to avoid Razer like the plague.
Still think this looks awesome, but I don't know what half of that all means. Would someone please just skim over it and give me a brief summary on whether it's a yay or nay?

Don't know the brand, looks good though (I have been drinking though), I want something like that with white back lighting.

Yeah, like that. Hard to get that one in Canada though.
A very detailed guide I found on mechanical keyboards, includes the difference between each switch-type and even has a list of popular keyboards categorized by switch-type at the bottom:

I think when I get some money, I'm almost definitely going to get one with MX Browns. I think that's the best fit for me although the MX Blacks could also probably work, I think I'm more heavy handed when I type than most and I know I'm smashing the shit out of the W in every game I play, lol. They say the MX Black switches have no tactile feel and I want it to feel at least somewhat similar to how it is now and not just have a really strong push where you can't tell where you actuated the keys, that seems to just about defeat the point of a mechanical keyboard unless you're already used to where the actuation point would be on one which is generally about 2mm looking at all the specs of them.
Currently looking at the Das Professional Silent keyboard:

They also give out student discounts as somebody pointed out in another thread.

Yeah Kamp posted that guide on the previous page.
I think for now I might just wait it out, till my finances are more in order. Just too many other big expenses coming up.

So I dusted my computer out a bit, plugged everything back in, booted up and started playing BF3. Look down and the backlighting is working again

Yes!
I just recently switched from an eclipse II to a steelseries 7g (got a good deal on one no way in hell would I pay the $170 retail for a keyboard) with blacks and the lack of tactile feel hasn't bothered me one bit. It is still a dream to type on compared to any other keyboard I've ever used and the only thing I don't like about the switches is it can be difficult to hold a key down for long periods with my pinky (like to hold a crouch position)._j5689_ wrote:

The 6Gv2 is great and half the price of a 7G.
Amen, tis what I have and it's wonderful. Not backlit though.bugz wrote:
