Why'd it die so quickly? I remember when it first came out, it was a lot of fun, tonnes of full servers, then it crashed and died pretty quickly....

Crashed and died quickly? I played it from 10/06 thru 5/08. It did have only one expansion, so that limited longevity.
I think the major reason it didn't last as long as BF2 was two-fold: 1) futuristic setting and 2) BF2 still had a thriving community.

it was a really fun game but buggy as shit. also got really laggy in the titan stag of the game on large servers.

Took buggy to whole new level. It had a few good ideas, they were executed poorly. I played it ~6mo
I think it died kinda quick, just for the fact that the game REQUIRED teamwork to win, especially in titan mode, and everyone knows random pubs don't use teamwork.

The graphics card I used for BF2 (GT7600) is still being used to this day with it's trusty E6600 and 8GB of DDR2 ram. My parents don't know how lucky they are.
