I guess if two trained police officers managed to hit 9 innocent people in a panic, your average citizen would hit even more people if they were in the middle of a mass shooting in a populated place.

Many cops don't really shoot as often as you'd think they would/should. What is required varies, but I believe 1 to 4 times a year is common for shooting qualification. While that may not be bad for actually qualifying, practice should be every week or every other week. I've heard that a lot cops only practice shooting before they go up for qualification. It depends on the cop and on the citizen. There are some people I would rather trust than your average cop! There are also some cops I would trust over a lot of people. The shooting enthusiast who takes multiple classes and practices weekly or more often is probably going to be FAR more proficient than the average LEO. On the other hand, the guy who thought carrying a gun would be cool, and last went to the range 4 months ago probably won't be that capable.

I agree with this. Most officers are required to qualify yearly, but have no other training time assigned to them for firearms. It is totally up to the individual officer in most cases on if he practices regularly or not.Dilbert_X wrote:

The man had apparently finished his shift, but returned about 3:30 a.m. armed with the weapons and multiple magazines. He started firing randomly, hitting the two employees, Kaplan said.
All three of the dead were assigned to the overnight shift at the store, on Route 9 near the Sayreville border.
