NSA + Aspergers co-workers + girl problem thread._j5689_ wrote:
My grandma found somebody who knows somebody who works in the NSA and says there is a bunch of IT guys in it that mostly have Aspergers but aren't really graduates or anything else and the person said they may be able to get me in if I submit a resumee. The only problem is I obviously won't be able to get a security clearance for it because I've smoked in the last year.
My parents of course know about the job and think it's perfect and it would be a waste for me not to do it but I don't know if there's any way for me to actually get in. I've smoked as recently as two or three weeks ago and I think they do hair testing anyway which is a long term history scan I think.
What can I do?
Are you unbelievably good with computers? If not then don't bother. Unless you have something special to give, you generally need the qualifications._j5689_ wrote:
Well, the reason I mentioned it is because that basically means it's full of people pretty much just like me except these are probably the complete unmotivated social recluses that cashed in their straight edge lifestyle for a nice stable government job that recognizes how unbelievably good they are with computers without having gone through all the college bullshit.
Or so I assume

My ex girlfriend left home at 14. She had not seen nor heard from her dad since she was 7, her mum had bipolar and was constantly unwell (physical assaults were common) and she had spent a few years in and out of foster care.-Sh1fty- wrote:
So here's the situation as it stands currently. I have a job as a server/maintenance/clean-up guy at this retirement place. I get $190 every two weeks for working 2 hour shifts Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I also work the breakfast and lunch shift on Saturday. So this job is really handy in that it was easy and didn't conflict with school and got me some spending money.
Now I need to go on to bigger and better things. In the new week or two I need to find time to see an optician and if I can see 20/40 (which is what they said I could see when I got my glasses a year ago) I'll be in boot camp soon. However, if for some reason I cannot see 20/40 I need a plan B.
I'm not particularly good at any one thing. I've done a lot of internship work as an electrician and as a network engineer. I studied computer science at college for a year where I learned C, Java, PHP, XHTML, and CSS; how to build a computer, trouble shooting, and do other administrative stuff with file accessibility, and network sharing, bla bla bla, etc. I've also done a lot of landscaping work and just general handy work around houses. So those are all my qualifications.
I hate college. I would like nothing more than to avoid it and try to live a middle class life, not living paycheck to paycheck but not rolling in money either. What are my opportunities? I'm hard working, honest, on time, learn quick, and responsible. I just hate being behind a desk or sitting for extended periods of time but those jobs seem to pay the most.
I just don't know what to do, I feel lost and unproductive right now. I just sit around at home or go out with friends while waiting for my lame low-pay few-hours work to roll around and I also gotta see an optometrist for my eyes but I don't have a car that I can use to just go there whenever I want. I feel so useless right now, I want a car so I can get a better job also but I need the job to get the car and I need the car to get the job.
My family is broke so they can't help me.

Get a loan for a car, and/or scounge one from the old folks - we've had this discussion before.Sh1fty wrote:

Don't discount college, after 10 years manual work you might be ready for a desk job and without college it won't be an option.FatherTed wrote:
oh and if you write of college because its 'lol boring', you'll probably find yourself with a pistol in your mouth and an empty bottle of jack, sitting in a motel in your boxers at 3am on a tuesday about 10 years down the line
so yeah have fun

It's ridiculous, I've got a meager certification, yet EVERYTHING here needs a degree. There's no place where I can apply to to go in at the lowest possible position and gain experience/work my way upDilbert_X wrote:
