I sent an application to Conrail and got a response back. On the 6th of June there is a testing and screening event that I qualified for. I checked online and saw that I may get drug tested during this event. I cannot pass a drug test right now.
Wups
Anyhoo, got 2 interviews today within 2 hours and one tomorrow. Let's see how this goes.

Earlier this year I worked for my University in the Research department in cleaning their databases. These are nasty motherfuckers. multi dimensional bastards, shit left everywhere accross 3 whole different databases, which needed to be cleansed, merged, and ready for ERA, a federal government initiative. This meant all the data had to be parsable by computer applications -- and in wisdom, the government chose XML.
It was a 2 month temp position, half my money went into tax (which I can get back next month) because they 'lost' my tax file declaration form. hippy wippy! The individual whom employed me was my year 10 IT Teacher (high school).
Today I got a great reference from him, with the university letter head etc, to quote "Andrew's technical competence is noteworthy" ... "shows great initiative" ... "showed advanced skills above his expectations" ... "always punctual, well groomed, polite, and contributed positively to the team environment".
Thrilled with the reference.
I've applied now to also become a tutor at the University - teaching the subjects i've HD'd.
On the application form they have the pay rates... As a tutor you work a max of 10-14 hours per week. Your wage is $110/hr for the first tutorial of a subject you tute, $73/hr for the sam tute if it's repeated -- and $36/hr for any marking time.
pretty ace. it's a long shot if i'll get it, but gotta be in it to win it
@Camm - that situation suck major balls. I'd go out of my way to tell you old employer the whole situation -- they will prolly be ok with it, considering you were going for an educational position, and not for a competitor or similar.

everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously. ♥
those who can't, teach
I had to request being put into the position I'm in now (on the waiting list for training for a big promotion). Now my boss seemed excited about my ambitions, but i still had to work my way there.
they fucked me over once for one of the 2 training-periods each year because i didn't have enough experience with the different shifts (they didn't give me the hours for the other shifts, yet they mostly pinned it on me for not requesting them enough).
now I'm waiting for the second training and my chances of getting in still seem to linger at 50/50, after everything I've done.
loyalty to my employer has always been a major thing for me. A principal i hold very highly.
i never bitch or moan about my job and about how theyve kept this promotion in front of me like a carrot on a stick to keep me there (wasted nearly a year trying to get it already), but now they've offered some twat a spot on the list as well. I can't blame him, but when he told me i was fucking livid.
I felt like smahing everything. I didn't...

And seems like it pays off to use that briefcase logo on your Linkedin profile. Got a contact just now. Gotta call the guy and ask what he's offering.
Would be a perfect day if one of my clanmates hadn't died of cancer today. Poor kid. Atleast the pain is over
