I have been on a malbec kick of late. Not just Argentinian, either. There's a couple of really good Texas Hill Country vintages.

Really more into reds than anything else now. Got hooked on a flight from Stuttgart to the States in 01. They bumped me up to business class and I tried every wine on the list...

I have a passing interest in wine. I know a little more than the general population but less than any enthusiast worth his salt.

My brother and my ex both work in fine dining restaurants as supervisors, so I learned most of what I know from them. During my brief sojourn in the US my bro and I tried several different wines. We noticed the Cali cab savs weren't as big and bold as Aus/NZ cab savs (either to do with the grape or the region or a combo of both I imagine). I was drunk pretty much every night so it's a bit of a blur as to what tasted like what

I do remember this one, it was quite nice:



Franciscan Estate: Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (2007) with a seafood platter starter of fresh oysters, prawns and crab. We had this in Monterey, CA.

Also, I'm a big Tool fan so I just had to stop by Jerome in AZ and pick up a couple bottles for collection (they currently sit in the small 12 bottle wine fridge beside me at my computer)




I'm fairly narrow in my wine tastes, primarily drinking reds. Tend to only buy pinot noir for drinking by the bottle. Otherwise I'll happily try any shiraz/merlot/riesling/chardonay if it is matched well with the meal/canapes.

I think I just haven't given shiraz enough of a chance. It's a bit tart so perhaps I needed some nice soft cheeses to balance the flavour a bit. I think my taste was influenced somewhat by my ex, she loves Tasmanian and NZ pinot noir.

For a white I like Conundrum. Red, Justin.. although I'm really not big on white.

The other ones aren't too shabby. One of my good friends is a dealer and he turned me on to those.

Whenever I'm invited over as a guest here in Vienna I always bring a bottle of Californian wine with me.

Yeah but its cheap so it doesn't matter, and often its blended which can be good.
I've had many expensive wines which were shit so if I find a good cheap one I'll stick with it.

Cab Sav, Cab Merlot, Shiraz, they're all OK, I'd have to think of the brands.

Had a glass of Inniskillin Riesling with porkchops tonight.

It was easy to drink and complimented the meat.

Tried a few glasses of Le Chat Noir, from France. It's $25 a bottle or $30 for two from the place around the corner. Quite nice. I think it would accompany lamb or kangaroo pretty well.

went to Colorado, who knew they had a thriving viticulture? we stopped at Mountain View Winery for a tasting. we left with a case.



sorry there's only 10 bottles pictured, may the other 2 (a sweet little chardonnay and a pinot noir) R I P in piece.

My girlfriend took me to a vineyard for my birthday in August, we did a wine tasting. They have paulownia trees which the bees make honey from and then they infuse some of the wine with the honey, as well as make liqueur and spirits from the honey. Some very interesting and nice wines there.

Recently we drank a bottle of viognier and quite enjoyed it. I'm not much of a white fan but I think with summer on the way it might be a good time to branch out from my usual reds.

Just bought this, always been a bit partial to pinot noir.

An aside: friend works at the vineyard.



Also noticed they stock Stefano Lubiano pinot noir. Quite impressed as I had previously searched for it in QLD, including calling up the distributor and they said they do not bring it into the state. I guess Sydney is a fair bit closer to Tasmania than Brisbane.
