I'll be taking a six-month break from my gaming rig, starting this summer, thanks to Uncle Sam.

If I want to be able to play BF3, I'm going to have to replace my existing laptop (about 6 years old).

Only requirement is that it plays BF3 and similar at a decent fps.

I've lost the bubble on laptop components, so I'm unsure of the right video card to look for...along with all the other components.

Any recommendations or tips?

A Sager/Clevo with a i7 2860, 8gb DDR3 1600, 300gb SSD and Radeon 6990M will set you back just under $2500.

I haven't tested BF3 yet, but it plays Skyrim on its highest settings with the high res pack, at solid FPS (40+, usually over 60)...I'm actually going to test it out for BF3 in the next few days, I'm assuming it will play smoothly on high settings @ 1600x900. Windows Experience Index (I know, I know...not the most worthwhile benchmark) is a 7.6 fwiw.

You could get a lower end processor and less ram and knock the price down to under $2000 as well, and it would still be a beast for current games. Cut the SSD storage in half and the price drops a couple hundred more.

The more technically-enlightened minds of BF2s will undoubtedly steer you in the right direction.

Note that she's a power-hungry mistress, and runs out of battery in 3.5-4 hours TOPS, when using it for work-related purposes or even just browsing. That's my one complaint so far, but I think it was to be expected. I'm sure I could tweak my power-saving settings to be more efficient as well...but when you're gaming, it shouldn't be a problem to be plugged in.
