IMO, a bit large for desktop use, where the maximum distance is <1m.
That is, it'll be nice for watching movies from a bit further away.

I have a 23" monitor at 1920*1080 and I don't want to know how the same resolution stretched further would look like in a desktop environment.
Like watching a billboard with a magnifying glass...

I like large monitors for photoshop and illustrator.
And since i'm used to the 30" this one wouldn't be a problem for me.
Is it worth the money?

I have the same monitor in 24" I think. It's really nice, but not being able to tilt the screen is annoying.

The Ultrasharp uses the same panel, but is cheaper.  Plus it comes calibrated to industry standard

it goes on sale for 40% off once every month or so, plus dell coupons can be found easily.  and you can probably find it on their outlet store

That's a huge step down from a 30 apple monitor. If you're using the monitor for design you really want to stick to IPS for the color accuracy. TN film sucks major ass and you'll never get great colour reproduction. Nor will you get good viewing angles. Bit of a joke really.

And I'm not sure  where you got your info on ultrasharps coming calibrated to industry standard. Tft central states that its bad  out of the box and needs calibration. In fact, if any monitor comes calibrated properly, and I hate to say this, its the apple monitor.

But I'm not really going to spend again 1000euroes for a screen, they don't make the 30" anyways.

Who said 1000 euros? Go look at the 27 inch Hazro IPS. Much less than 1000 euros and an incredible monitor.

To be honest, if you're designing (which I know you do and you do well) shelling out extra on a monitor is always worth it. I would never go back to TN film and would gladly spend 1000 on my next one even if it breaks the bank.

this^. imo, for a designer an ips matrix should definitely come before extra three inches.

Keep in mind, if you are designing on these ultra high end monitors and not spot checking on the shitty types, you're making likely making designs that won't reach a very large portion of the population if the end target is screen display.

I can't tell you the number of times I've gotten a mock from our designer and work and had to ask for a rework because, no, putting the text 5 shades the background gray doesn't really work.

---

That all said, I have a 2408WFP (which I think is the generation before IPS) and I'm quite happy with it. Have one at home and two at work. I don't have experience with IPS displays to say how they compare, but I don't feel like I lack for anything for typical gaming/browsing usage.
