Well it's been a few months since BF3 was released, and to be honest, I feel as if I enjoyed Bad Company 2 more than this game.
- The maps in BC2 varied greatly in their environments. While there were urban areas, the high level of destruction made almost every game slightly different because of the ability to blow the fuck out of mostly any structure. At the end of the game, some towns would end up hardly touched, some would be riddled with holes, and others would be leveled completely. It all depended on the teams, playstyles, and length of the round. In BF3, it seems as if only 20 or 30 percent of buildings can be destroyed. This is a huge problem when almost half the number of maps (Seine, Tehran, Bazaar, Metro) take place solely within city limits.
- It had jungle maps, desert maps, snow maps, as well as forests and complex waterways. While BF3 has little bits of everything, on the whole it feels like a random assortment oddly designed urban areas with clunky chokepoints and wide open areas which punish those who were not lucky enough to get a vehicle. This was always a problem with Battlefield, but in BF3 it seems almost excessive.
- The Vietnam expansion was the perfect mix of infantry combat, varied environments and elevations, and still giving room for the (limited) number of vehicles to flourish.
- While everyone welcomes jets and other aircraft, it does not come close to making up for the facts I stated above.
- The unlock system in BF3 is redundant and convoluted. When it comes to Battlefield unlocks, generally, less is more
- A common saying on bf3s is that "oh you're just viewing things through rose tinted glasses" and that "maybe you're just tired of Battlefield". While I doubt anyone played BC2 more than BF2, I was still playing it up until BF3 came out. It had longevity. After 3 months of BF3, I am almost ready to sell it.
I'm waiting to see what DLC comes out for BF3 because that is something DICE generally excels at, I've never been disappointed with any additional BF content, ever. But in the meantime I think I will just switch back to BC2. So what does bf3s think?
