AR, just out of sheer curiosity, did you even get/are you planning on buying this game, or is your only contribution to the thread as it is anywhere you trying to be funny? Just wondering.

Played it for about an hour, got through two major missions. It's fun. Some of the bullets like the Killburst are awesome. Like most post apocalyptic games however it starts off pretty slow as you have to work your way up from nothing.

Coming from ID this is appalling.

After Doom 3 and Quake 4, what did you expect? It hasn't been the same company for a long time.

Boxed Anarchy Edition, here. Steam wouldn't let me enter the wasteland sewer missions code. Said it was already activated on my account. Anyone else have that issue?

Was planning on getting it, about a month after release. That is the usual time the first patch comes in to fix the bugs that are the most glaring.

Pre-orders these days is just another BETA test really.

From what I've been post-release, it looks entirely forgettable.

This made me scratch my head in disbelief. I'm very interested in this game, but I´m gonna wait at least a few weeks for them to polish it.
Despite "not being the same company since a long time", ID always had the self-imposed standard of pushing the tech frontier forward for PC gaming (Carmack said so last during this years Quakecon). That they release a game with practically zero graphics options, apart from the tech problems is simply baffling...

Played a little more today. Vehicle combat is pretty fun and driving your buggy around in general feels pretty cool.

Really fucking wish they'd added a minimap when you're in a town, though. No idea why they wouldn't. Makes Wellspring(s?) a lot more difficult to work through.

The auto-adjustment is a great concept, but I'd still like to see what a game looks like with max settings even if I run it at shitty FPS. That they didn't include a toggle between it and custom settings, and that it has such blatant issues on release is just awful.

When I played the first room, I thought it was going to run perfectly. Then I stepped outside. Even with 16GB RAM and a 2.5GB GTX 570, I was seeing textures loading every time I turned around.

I don't see why they couldn't fix it by increasing the "perspective" of textures loaded beyond the player's viewing angle so the engine has time to catch up with speedy turns.

Playing a bit. Turned on vsync, turned the texture cache to large and turned the resolution down to 1440x900. Texture loading is only now noticeable if I'm looking for it, but I'd prefer to play at 1920x1200. Frame rate is about the same whichever way I go, I just can't stand the glitching.

Even though I have vehicle interact set to ";", controls seem to force me to use "e" to exit a vehicle. The Steam overlay also causes the menu to go crazy.

They've improved it with today's patch, but it could use even more improvement. I have a TON of memory for it to use, and I wish I could just load all textures 270 degrees around me, regardless of my narrow FoV.

====================

E: Tried R285 beta drivers. Improvements were vast. I hardly see texture loading now, but I still have to run one 16:10 below 1920x1200. I imagine unlocking max textures would also crap on my 570.

this game reminds me of how I can't aim for shit in console FPS's

Engine has great potential once it's been polished up a bit, but the game feels just so generic. It's like Borderlands and Red Faction 3, only without Borderlands humor or destructible buildings. In fact, the lack of the latter (so far, I guess) makes this game feel a lot less next-gen than it should.

If I could blow up buildings and deform (or bore through) terrain, I'd be a happy camper. But right now, it has me running along pretty linear fetch/kill-quests.

Also doesn't help that I'm more impressed by looking at displacement mapping in Egyption-style tombs in Two Worlds 2.

carmack has already conceded that the PC is no longer the lead platform for iD.

lets face it consoles rule the gaming world.

Looking back at the original trailer... there's been almost NO graphical improvement upon it. And that trailer was released 2 years ago.

It is 20 times better than FO3.

But that says way more about FO3 than anything else.

Have you tried unlocking the "better" textures? Seems stupid to have to do, but it helps.
