Spot Color Photography (Selective Coloring)

I personally don't like it. I think it's to too much of a distraction, annoying even.
However, amateurs and professionals alike frequently use this technique.

I read this challenge and thought I'd check some opinions here.

So what say you?

Well, let me sum my opinion up by saying this. It can "work", but I think most spot color treatments are usually better off without it.

I really hate it when photogs use it for wedding photos. You have this beautiful picture of the bride and the thing the photog highlights is the bouquet. Now, I know that most brides and very proud of the flowers they picked out, but a picture of the bride should not look like she is merely a prop to hold the flowers.

This. I think there is a disconnect because, in fact, some clients demand it. However, I feel the average viewer is more interested in the natural flow of a photo. Be that bw or full color.

I get it in product advertising ... erm, sometimes. I still think there are better ways of making your product stand out.. with composition, vignettes, etc.

Burnz you mostly do landscape photography. vingettes seldom work with that.

I saw one, where this couple had a new kid in the for ground, everything was b/w except the ~ 7 year old in the background whose clothes where in colour looking at his feet.

tldr: i've seen it used very well to draw the eye to things that are normally looked over. The kind of shit you posted is like oh wow my camera has a function to just highlight reds.

I don't like it with people photography. It's gimmicky to me, like overdone hdr's.

I dunno, I think it can work pretty well sometimes.

Most of the time it comes off as amateur-ish and "bro I learned how to photoshop", but there are a few I've seen where it's really effective.

...but of course i have no examples at-hand
