Somebody needs to clue these guys in that you can learn all you need to know about war from playing BF2. Imagine that, people learning the how to's of killing from the Marines only to better prepare for a life of crime. A suspected gang member should be expelled from the service.

This gives me great motivation to write to the US/UN/OPEC/ASEAN/Whatever asking to make a global law that you can be criminally charged for being a complete and utter jerk/dickhead/retard/dipshit.

That's pretty interesting. You would think that the experience in military would steer them away from the life of crime.

Logic says your refering to the gangbangers, however, experience with some of the posters on this forum says your more likely refering to me...

Ok then all the movie stars don't have to worry about their oil prices, or worrying about losing gas for their suburbans, hummers, private jets, and all else. I agree with fighting for oil now.

Gunslinger, where are you to chime in on this?

That's a blanket statement. Yeah, some people use their training for not so noble purposes.

But... if gangbangers learned how to shoot properly, how many kids would saved in drive-by shootings? Imagine some piece of shit lowlife actually hitting his target... instead of a 4 year old girl on her way home from school.

Then there is also the path to bettering oneself through service to your country.

I remember in phoenix I was called a "gang-member" by an old white guy because I gave the "black mans handshake" to a friend of mine (who was samoan).

Unless the only reason that you joined was to profit in that life of crime.  And don't fool yourself, the military is full of criminals.

OK, now for a real comment.

Chalk one up for gained intelligence.  It took them how many years to figure out they could go into the military to get training?

Actually if the Army wanted to they could call it treason.  They're training to protect and defend the constitution against all enemys foreign AND domestic.  Ok, bit of a stretch.

They could prosecute these criminals under terrorist statutes.  They are military trained individuals engaging in crimes against the people of the United States.  Ship em all out to Gitmo.

No matter their war record or military performance, if they commit a crime with their training they're going to face harsher punishments than just some kid off the street.

This seems kinda silly, of course a few gang members saw service. A few have graduated high school too.

You don't need to go through all the Training and discipline to learn how to do a drive by or shoot someone in the back.

Some gangs are not even prone to crimanal activity
A lot of young people make those hand signals without even knowing what it is about.

Rappers etc. think it gives them " Street Cred " like stagging a shooting.
Others mimic the look of their idols.  Dont look for strong signs of logic or reasoning.
It seems like a sensationalist article.

Like this whole " Our Boarders are not secure " Thing.

Like they ever were before?  Suddenly its all G.W. Bush's fault.

The media will hound him on this too more than likely.

No, but you do need it to shoot your weapon accurately in any scenario. Are you saying someone with military training in assault rifles is not going to use them better than the average gang banger?

Yes, our borders are not secure, and have never been. However, it has been on "Bush's Watch" that the issue has become out of control. Record numbers of illegal immigrants are coming in, and record impacts on the economy and job availability for legal americans. Something didn't necessary NEED to be done about it 10 years ago, but today, it is a very big issue, and this is Bush's Watch, hence why it's Bush's fault.

It's not his fault that the issue started, it's his fault that nothing has been done to stop it since he has been in office.

So he inherited a problem, and it's his fault? How about his predecessor who did nothing to prevent it from becoming the cancer it is today?

It's at the forefront because people are actually getting pissed off for a change. Thanks to the protests, people are becoming active. They had the opposite effect.

Plus.... it's an election year. And the bill they are backing is complete bullshit.

most gangs use rarely use assault weapons, to big hard, to conceal. The media hypes this whole "assault weapons" thing. Every once in a while some gang member is actually dumb enough to believe it and gets one. Police notice a lot of Gang members hold their pistols " Sideways " because they see it on TV. lol

I don't need a lesson from you, thanks. I have been following this closely for YEARS!
It didn't become out of control under Bush's watch anymore than "the Homeless " issue was for G.H.Bush or Bush 1
There may be more illegals now but the population has increased in both countries so it only stands to reason.

" The Minute Men " go way back past His administration too. You just never heard about it before. I did.
Lax borders and illegals have always been a problem and a large part of our economy needs them. So it is  a parallax.

But don't give me the " Its Bush's fault " argument. I have been following this problem for years. I know this won't go over well but, You have been fooled on the Porous borders issue. I haven't. Sorry.

Ps look into the Homeless issue under Bush 1. 88 to 92. After hounding G.H. Bush for years about it, It magically disappeared the day clinton was elected.
If a democrat gets elected this Story  will stop on a Dime also.

The only place you will hear about the border problems will be "Soldier of Fortune".

You will notice the Democrats and their loyal allies in the Media Burried the Viques Porto Rico bombing range Story when it became an embarrisment to them.

Yes, we do need a Naval Practice Area Hillary, you Stupid F***CK !

Wow.. why do some of you even bother posting? Seriously just take a look and pass on by. To those that actually posted real credible discussion I thank you. After all this section IS called Debate and Serious Talk not idiotic comment section.

Now taking what the news article said at face value I have to say that this is pretty alarming. If enough gang members get into the military for the specific reason to come back and use their military training as gang members on the streets then the current law enforcement has quite a bit of trouble on their hands.

Military training is better than Police training. Police training is about more than simply firing weapons, you have to console, compromise, mediate, keep the peace and a non-lethal manner and then escalate only if deemed necessary. Military training is about killing. You aim, you fire, you take out the enemy as quickly as possible. You learn to avoid being put into situations where you might get killed. This means being more alert, quicker reflexes, knowledge of devices and weapons from rifles to pistols, grenades and other explosive devices. With the number of assault weapons available still on the black market well connected gangs with enough money can get these to the trained gang members. Also those that were in the military could possible train other gang members into becoming better street soldiers. This is not unlike what militia groups do all the time except now they are on the streets and running drugs and weapons.

Unless the police start training in a military fashion, unless they start imposibing military tactics and unless they realize that an assault rifle in the hands of a trained marksman can now exist in the hands of a gang banger, then the police force is no longer effective. SWAT will be the norm, curfew will be the norm, patroling the streets in armored vehicles will be the norm.

We do not want something like this getting out of hand. This is what the article is about and this is what it's trying to prevent.

Before you even think about typing a retort, unless you have something serious to add to this.. do me and the rest of the serious commenters a favor and take whatever crap thought you had and just let it go.

So it's basically another media attempt to put is in a state of fear?  God damn do I hate the news...  Although people obtaining military training with alterior motives is not completely far fetched, getting all worked up about this is uncalled for in my humble opinion.

Exactly.  I saw this on the news the other night, and that's all it is: Media attempting to instill fear in the public.  Yeah, maybe there are a few gangmembers that went through MCRD, MCT, a tour in Iraq, and then came back and turned back to the streets.  Maybe.  That's a lot of dedication just to learn to handle weapons with greater efficiency.  i think we should be more worried about the effects of PTSD on veterans than gangbangers coming back from Iraq.  What happened to patriotic calls to support our troops?  Only when they are overseas?

not including me,  I know many gang members that joined the army.  After a certain amount of time in a military environment, everybody eventually got their shit together.  The rest who still thought they were out on the streets were the fuck up soldiers that got chaptered out one way or the other.   The way I figured, it would stupid and disrespectful to the memories of my fallen comrades to remain in that kind of lifestyle.  I could just imagine how much shit talking there would be back in my company if anybody still thought that I was with that shit.  It all boils down to who I have more respect for, the people I served with whom, chances are I will never see again, or the lowlifes who live around me who are going to be doing the same thing theyve been doing since high school for the rest of their lives.  I honor the memories of my friends in the service, alive and dead, more than the presence of gangmembers.

I know a lot of high ranking NCO's who used to be hardcore gangbangers in the 80's and early 90's and entered the military and now they have chest's full of medals and 40 guys under them.

Yep.  My dads fellow marine buddy was a total fuck-up 18th St. wannabe in and out of Joplin Boys Ranch and Jail before he joined.  He retired as a Master Gunny and is one of the funniest, real, sincere people I know.

I was fairly confident of the military's ability to weed people out but having no certainty, I didn't make a statement about it.  The way I figure it is if military training is exploitable, someone clever would have already done it.

That's what they're good at; yapping about bullshit that doesn't matter while letting all the important things slip under the radar.  Hey remember when they wanted us to duct tape our windows and buy gas masks?
