lol, Chinese people seeing it as a "victory" over the US is as ridiculous as people seeing it as an affront to America.

There's no point in continuing this stupid 'beef' between each nation. We need China's cheap goods and China needs our money to buy their cheap goods.

DB's point is that the WH should have known in advance or have said something. I don't agree with his view TBH.

The article's point is that the Chinese were being pricks and have a history of being pricks like that.

He then said, “I thought to play ‘My Motherland’ because I think playing the tune at the White House banquet can help us, as Chinese people, feel extremely proud of ourselves and express our feelings through the song. I think it’s especially good. Also, I like the tune in and of itself, every time I hear it I feel extremely moved.”

He expressed this idea more frankly in a later blog post, writing: “Playing this song praising China to heads of state from around the world seems to tell them that our China is formidable, that our Chinese people are united; I feel deeply honored and proud.”
“My Motherland” having been played at the White House will be seen as a propaganda triumph in China.

“In the eyes of all Chinese, this will not be seen as anything other than a big insult to the U.S.,” says Yang Jingduan, a Chinese psychiatrist now living in Philadelphia who had in China been a doctor in the Chinese military. “It’s like insulting you in your face and you don’t know it, it’s humiliating.”

Yang sees Lang Lang choosing this tune as an expression of the deeply anti-American propaganda that is constant in China.
...
Whether Chinese officials intended Lang Lang to play this piece, its performance at the White House fits a general pattern of Chinese propaganda attacking the United States. Subtle details are seized on and used to humiliate the United States before the Chinese people.

When Nixon visited China, a photo was taken of him getting off the plane to greet Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai. Nixon has a big smile and extends his hand out to Zhou. Zhou stands with a rigid face and holds his hand close to his body.

The photo was widely used in all of the Chinese media to help support the idea that Nixon’s visit was a victory for China. Chinese schoolchildren were told, “See how long Nixon’s arm is stretched out? That shows the United States is reaching out to us.”

When President Obama visited China in November 2009, he toured the Imperial Palace. Obama exited through the Shen Wu Men, which may be translated as Gate of Divine Prowess. CCTV reported that he exited through the Shun Zhen Men, which may be translated as “Gate of Obedience and Purity.”
Reread the whole article it has nothing zero nil to do with "zomg Obama is a communist". It's about the Chinese having a streak of douchebaginess. The article is pointing out that the Chinese Government probably did it on purpose for the sake of propaganda.

Finally, before you mention the article is anti Chinese propaganda, the article points out that the Chinese are kinda like us
More moderate Chinese have expressed disappointment at the attitudes of their countrymen.

A sinovision blog quotes “Professor A” saying : “Everyone knows this Shangganling is from a ‘Resist America, Support Korea’ film, and I think Lang Lang would know that too. If he knew the song’s background and still chose to play it, then you can guess his motivation, or intellectual capacity. If he didn’t know, then mainland China’s education system is in more of a mess than I thought...

Why do you even post in this section?  All of your posts are filled with barbed insults that convey your prejudiced bigotry to any who speak.  This is a debate & serious topic forum.  Not assholes anonymous.  Go back to EE.

First.  Ob isn't a communist.  He's a Marxist.

Second fact is that the song played in the fucking President's home insinuated that the country he's charged to lead is evil, and it just so happens to be fought and defeated by the country's leader that he is entertaining.  Is it too great a concept for you to grasp that there are people who exist in this world, who actually care about things bigger than themselves?

Moreover, there are also people out there in countries who would see their leader going to the US and having it's premier's ass kissed by the POTUS as kinda a big deal.  Then the cherry is an anti-US song played in the mans house?  What a fucking victory!

Oh, but it's just a song -to you (derp).

you just said yourself that this is a place for "debate and serious talk", not a classroom.

a polite and proper debater would realise that if one has nothing intelligent or informed to say/add, then don't speak at all

you throwing around blind and absurd accusations is no better than people coming here to make petty insults

if you want to "debate and serious talk" about obama's politics, maybe do a little bit of reading / get a clue first

i think we'd all be bashing our heads against a wall in every thread if the matter-at-hand had to be comprehensively 'explained for dummies' to the entire rest of the forum beforehand. don't know shit about politics? haven't read a paragraph of marx? get all your 'info' from right-wing media? then just don't fucking post, jesus it's not hard. to then take a stand on a pedestal and assert that you're somehow part of the 'good' debating discourse is absolutely ludicrous.

this is why i never post here in a serious manner

your guy's definition of a 'good topic' involves the smug self-satisfaciton of the knowledgable/informed explaining repeatedly in increasingly simpler layman's terms the matter-at-hand to the dumb bigots, narrowminded idiots or pure trolling retards. every thread just devolves into this puerile exchange of the 'topic specialists' explaining and rephrasing the crux of a simple argument to people that don't want to read/learn. then you all pat yourselves on the back and the topic specialists can feel self-congratulatory and the dumbasses can walk away muttering something about them being "of a different political ideology" (as if their process of thought involves any thought or reasoning at all".

it's an absolute fucking farce. do some research before you dive into this sub-forum.

remember that time it took 20 pages to give lowing a whistle-stop tour of the history of western philosophy, because he kept getting his knickers in a twist about 'liberalism'? then got even more annoyed and incredulous when people neatly invented the neologism of 'neo-liberalism' to differentiate to the "don't get it, won't get it" morons (i.e. him)?

Ok got it.  I'm slightly inebriated, but here:

Meh'  My guy?  I lean fiscally conservative, but find myself more of a libertarian every day.  Honestly -I refuse to let political viewpoints of individuals tarnish my glasses of how I see that person, good or bad, either side of the aisle.  I'm a product of my environment.  I fear you may have used hurestics in arriving at a decision towards those who agree with 'my guy's' definition of a good topic.  I don't take glee or feel morally superior to those who disagree with my opinions.  Yet, I do have pride in my country and don't think I should apologies for that or cow tow to other foreign leaders.  It is as simple as that.  And I do find that the Bamster's medical plans among other social reforms resemble marxism.

if you categorize someone as being of a political ideology because of INDIVIDUAL policies then you completely devalue the entire purpose and currency of that term. an economic decision could be termed 'fascist', ideologically, but the IMPORTANT part of an IDEOLOGY is that it is a SET of values, beliefs, policies and practices. to decontextualise one medical bill and classify obama as a marxist does nothing but to destroy the point of having and using the term 'marxist', period.

a guy working in politics should logically realize this.

Oh, I agree.  There is a trend with him.  Look at his associates and what they're about.  But remember, the bamster didn't get what he really wanted in that med bill.  I wonder what else he would have done.  Honestly it was fellow d's that undid his agenda.  They were a f'n sledge hammer for the last two years...

*Will you give me "closet marxist"?
