You'd be surprised at the few people who have heard of BoC or any of the other suggestions I made. Not everyone has such an "expansive" taste in music like you do.

Stop being a dick in the music forums, your "high and mighty" attitude is just fucking annoying after a while. Respect what other people suggest and shut the fuck up.

I can't imagine sleeping to any music at all, really. I just based my suggestions on what Pos described.

I mean, I've fallen asleep listening to music a few times, but I can't imagine using it as a tool to help me sleep and I wouldn't choose to do it regularly.

My alarm is loud enough for me to hear when I have ear plugs, if I really can't sleep due to noise.

honestly if you're still producing lists with boc and eluvium on them for 'ambient' music then you should probably stop flirting

Coming from the man who is obsessed with Eluvium and BoC.

Would you rather I recommended Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works? You're a real hypocrite.

obsessed with eluvium and boc? really? i think they're great but, come on, in a 'recommend good ambient' music list it's a waste of breath. they're givens. it's like recommending someone the beatles or led zeppelin if they want 'rock music'. and SAW is pretty much the high-benchmark. people always overlook it, though, when considering ambient music because a) it's pretty old b) it's aphex twin, who people associate with idm/drillnbass

But he never asked for "good ambient", he asked for music to fall asleep to. He also didn't list what he listened to and both BoC and Eluvium are good to fall asleep to.

He was never asking for a genre, but any music that would get him to fall asleep. I don't disagree that Eluvium and BoC are "givens" in the ambient music genre, but you really need to look outside your social circle and you'll see that there really aren't that many people who have heard of them in comparison with... Led Zeppelin for rock music. I could quite confidently go into Glasgow University, in front of an English Literature lecture and ask if they've heard of them and only get about 10% of the students knowing who they are. And no, this isn't a moment to bash Glasgow or Scotland - Glasgow University has thousands of foreign students.

I don't think anything should be classed as a "given". We have no idea what Pos has heard of and what he hasn't. Therefore it makes most sense to recommend everything, including the "well known" artists.

Sorry Zeek, love ya, but Zim's right. I'm not nearly as experienced in the electronic genre as most people here are, so I was just throwing out the "ambient" line in order to show what I was looking for. I just want anything that's calming, relaxing and chill that can help me get to sleep.

Although I did mention a few artists which I already had in my library which have been recommended in this thread. But I get your point. Carry on.

Thanks for all the suggestions from everyone so far. Gonna go on a DLing rampage later.
