Half of the classes in BF2 were effectively useless. The AT class was probably the least used. It gimped you far too much. Engineer class was used almost exclusively by vehicle whores. Spec Ops was useful a handful of times per map. Healing from a medic kit is just too fucking lolzy, same for ammo crates.

Perks were meh but the customization that could be done within a class completely blew BF2 out of the water. Want to be a hunter with recon instead of sitting in a bush? Break out the VSS or shotguns.

Now, the only 'class' that didn't make a whole lot of sense in BC2 was the medic class. Giving them machine guns was kind of If they'd swapped the primary weapons of assault and medic it would've made a lot more sense and perhaps have been balanced better. I don't think any of us appreciate infinite noobtubing.
Pretty much agree with this. Go on any I/O server and everyone is either medic or sniper, with a few support guys thrown in.

I'd get bored with the same old same old so I'd often go engi cuz I love the US shottie, or every now and then for fun I'd go AT and strafe around corners, lot of fun. Pretty much never used spec ops unless needed.

BC2, the classes each have their role and I like the fact I can go commando with a shottie whilst wearing a ghillie suit and have C4.

Dunno, the game has it's flaws but I think BC2 on the whole is a lot more balanced than BF2. But BF2 has a lot more of the fun factor for me, I think it was simply the character movement tbh. In BC2, first person who shoots, wins. BF2 you can actually engage some true skill to dodge/reduce enemy fire and pwn the enemy.

Saying that a class is invalidated because they have little purpose in IO servers is pretty stupid, considering that BF2 was originally designed around vehicles. I'm not just talking out of my ass, either. I have comparable time spent playing ALL classes and found each of them vastly different from one another in air maps, land maps and even infantry maps. The only class I generally don't take to IO is AT (makes sense, right? no vehicles), unless I feel like practicing with the P90, having fun with the DAO-12 or rocket-sniping snipers.

True skill is not taking advantage of the hit box.  Using cover, yes.  Open field, prone jumping.  No way in hell should that give you any dodging advantage.  Diving to prone should not increase your accuracy.

BC2, not always first person who shoots win.  Headshot almost always beats sprayer.  Same with shotty versus sprayer.

AT was good against revive trains.

Dolphin diving could pretty much be neutralized if the hit box around it was fixed and there was a delay imposed before you saw increased accuracy benefits. Usually all that would happen with dolphin divers against me is they'd catch a three-round burst in their teeth. Come to think of it, I don't see a heck of a lot of dolphin diving in BF2 anymore.

Firing a rocket at a bunch of squashed-together infantry is something I don't get to do that often. And if I do, I'd usually prefer a grenade launcher. Pretty satisfying though, arcing a rocket slightly around a corner and getting a couple kills.

That's because it was nerfed in 1.4. Before that, BF2 matches would consist of people running into each other, hitting their dolphin dive macro and clicking. It looks absurd when everyone is flopping around on the ground. And yeah, that was considered 'skill' and the bitching the nerf brought about was... deafening.

It was easy enough to dolphin dive manually, and didn't get you kicked as often if you didn't resort to it constantly. Always got a better score from just shooting people in the face, though.

Didn't consider that. Usually, a grenade will take out anyone nearby, unless you're dealing with packs of medics that keep their distance.

Only if they're a direct hit. Splash damage is revivable.

Left hand mouse, right hand keyboard. I can't for the life of me figure out when I'd have time to actually use the Nostromo, even if flying with the Sidewinder, because I still have to control the analog throttle.

I disagree with the notion that some of the classes were useless in BF2, every class had different abilities and was thus suitable for different tasks & situations across the game.  Someone who spends 85% of their play time on IO Karkand might not agree, but people like that really aren't looking at the bigger picture.

Destructible buildings will change Karkand's dynamic a bit, blow up buildings = no more whole-round hotel meat grinder

Indeed.
And that would even make the AT rocket useful in an I/O game there: blowing up the buildings.
