sprint does charge for mobile hotspot. It's an additional $30 a month on top of your plan to use it. I've read though that if you root your evo you can use the hotspot feature for free. pdanet works good, I used the usb tether once on vacation.

Other apps i use on my EVO are:
- Astro file manager
- AndChat irc client
- Barcode scanner (from zxing)
- google sky map
- pandora
- the weather channel app
- tv guide mobile
- ScoreMobile (sports scores), works great.

edit - I might also look into using Launcher pro. there are some youtube vids on it.

yeah its awesome. the only gay thing is, i got into swype's beta, but i can't install the latest version on my phone because my phone came with an earlier version of swype.

I tried a number of launchers and came to the opinion that it's just fluff I don't need.

Yea, I absolutely love it. I wish the long press was a bit better, though, more like the default keyboard, but compared to how fast you can type, that's a small issue. Certainly not a deal breaker.

HaiBai - there were instructions on the Swype website that tell you how to get the latest version, I can recall reading them when I got into the beta a few weeks ago. Check again.

It seems like Swype's a lot easier to use in portrait mode vs landscape, at least on my EVO cos of the giant screen.

I use the Swype when I'm texting with one hand, normally I use HTC IME MOD.

Widely thought as one of the best Android keyboards. I use a swipe back gesture on the screen the clear the last word, really useful.

I agree. Even on my smaller HTC Magic screen I can't use Swype in landscape mode at all. I mean, I could, but it's too much space for my thumb to move across.

i do it sometimes. for example, ill browse bf2s in landscape mode because it's easier to read. that i cba to rotate my phone, so i'll just swype with 2 fingers. it's actually more accurate that way because the buttons become bigger.

3.0 will likely be only for tablets. I think phones won't get 3.x until the summer when all the new Tegra 2 and these dual-core phones hit the market.

For me I can nearly type as fast with swype with one finger as I can on my 'standard' phone keyboard with 2.

Another good thing about android is how you can so easily change the input type.

I have 5 different keyboards: standard android, htc ime mod, swype, 8pen and the gingerbread keyboard
