The screen is incredible, not backlit and very similar to reading off actual paper. Really phenomenal technology there. When you change page there's a weird etch-a-sketch type effect which takes some getting used to though. The device is light, thin, and well made. Very easy to hold and operate with one hand which is a huge advantage over paperbacks. The page-change buttons are sturdy and well placed although the keyboard's not great but thankfully I almost never use it.
I definitely would recommend against going for the 3G version, it's usefulness is severely limited unles you wanna buy books on the go. The browser is shit anyway so stick to a smartphone for web browsing.
PDF functionality isn't great, screen is too small which means you have to zoom into pages but as there's no touchscreen navigating a zoomed page is a slow and painful affair. PDFs in general are pretty slow to load and changing pages take a while.
Overall if you're using it to read novels cover to cover like I am it's perfect. If you need to flip back and forth between pages a lot though (ie like students would do with study books) it's not ideal unless you memorise all the page numbers that you need to get to. It stores a ton of books, it will memorise where you've read up to on each and every one, and getting files on and off is easy. The interface is pretty much idiot-proof; really easy to use and really intuitive.
It's worth noting that I've not used amazon's file conversion service yet- I've been using Calibre to convert files. But every now and then I get weird conversion artifacts like a word such as 'whistle' will become 'whisde'. Happens infrequently but whenever I get to a misspelt word it really breaks the immersion Will try amazon's service in a few days.

i actually regret dropping £800 on a new gaming pc this year... my biggest financial regret of the year, overall, in fact
i have used it for absolutely NOTHING. it is all industry hype. pc gaming may not be in decline but it's definitely caught up in utter bullshit
i haven't played a single game that i didn't/couldn't play on my rig built in 2007. the difference in quality/performance? negligible, really.
i was expecting a stepup similar to the previous tech step-up, i.e. AMD/DX9-> dual/quad-core/DX10. it just wasn't there.

i dont see the need for PC>consoles or viceversa at all tbh. If i want 'alone time' or 'srsbsnsgames' (check BF2, EVE, RTS's) ill go with PC. Why? They're generally not sociable (excluding clans and so on) games. If i just want 30mins to an hour of kicking the shit out of my mates i'll go with Halo any day. Also GT4/5, PES series.

you either have very boring mates or not enough to make a decent sample from then (sorry to say)
f.ex in my 1st year halls (so maybe 60 people in my block) maybe 2 had a gaming PC. another 30 probably had a console, and a total of maybe 30 played some form of PC game but not actively socially. PC games (the good ones) seem to be the kind that require you to think ergo realistically not a lot of people nowadays have time or patience for that. Console games have pretty much since forever been designed as cheap disposable fun and quite honestly i don't see why that makes one side better or worse than the other

good example of this, after work pre-bed i used to play COD4 for maybe an hour shooting the shit with mkxiii and co on the sexbox (seriously the most chill guy from this forum) but if i had a weekend free i'd spend it on BF2 or CnC Gens/AOE2
