I do like Deadmau5. For what he's worth. I don't try to write him off as defining the music industry of the last 10 years.

When you want to talk about what the industry's like the past 10 years, you HAVE to look at the popular, shitty people that have come into fruition. Taylor Swift? Lady GaGa (although she certainly does go against the norm and I guess that's something)? Justin fucking Bieber? Soulja Boy? Come on.

Those are the people who define the industry today.

Well, partially.

I don't think electronic music's bad at all. I just think to use it as an example as to why this decade is not a failure when it comes to music is fucking retarded.

Rock's been generally fine due to the rise of alternative. Rap, as compared to the 90's, has been terrible. When Lil Wayne is regarded as one of the best rappers out there, you know something's wrong.

then why are you going to let popular = general trend

when that's truly not the case

Deltron 3030
The Mask and the Mouse
Labor Days

terrible albums? decline in hip-hop? no.

or Kanye, for that matter.

Commercial rap has gone downhill.  Swapping out talent like Snoop, Tupac and Biggie for Lil' Wayne and Kanye.  However, that doesn't mean that RAP as a WHOLE has gone downhill.  Ask anyone who's been listening to rap (underground and commercial) for the last 15 years - they sure as shit don't have Lil Wayne on any of their lists.

So whatever list you see Lil Wayne at the top of can be thrown into the trash, because that's where it belongs.

Popular IS the general trend. Can you really look at the way rap is today and say it's superior to the 90's? Seriously?

There have certainly been bright spots and there always will be, but the 90's was far superior to this decade.

poseidon i should thank you really

the fact you praise kanye's album, and the fact you're a self-confessed kanye fan... paired with the shit you've spouted in this thread

the impression you give says more of kanye's music and average listener than any 1,000's of words of proper critique/review could

bevo if you think deltron3030, doom and aesop are even representative of 'rap' music then you're just as dumb

indie white-boy avant-garde weird shit isn't even in the same ballpark as kanye. there's a lot of 'ordinary' rap that's WAY better, too.

that's my point.

you know nothing of 'alternative' music, 'rock' music, 'rap' music, 'electronic' music

you think you're in the know because you go to pitchfork and listen to the radio... but that's not a diverse taste

there's a world of music out there, go get a clue

no, but examples of non-mainstream that don't fit this "decline" in rap, even if it is a small portion

that's extremely fringe shit man.

an 'underground hip-hop' or 'underground rap' fan would absolutely rail on you if you mentioned those artists.

most 'proper' rap fans don't even like that far-out, abstract, backpacker hip-hop.

I'd never even been to Pitchfork before today. Ever. I typically never, ever go on "music" review sites. I only read Rolling Stone once in a blue moon. I just happened to be on a site talking about the album and they referred to Pitchfork's 10.0 score.

My cultural circle, lmfao.

Lol, I called The Walking Dead deep for a "zombie show", because most zombie films are about nothing but senseless violence. You twisted it into... something beautiful, a little dark. Almost like a fantasy.

It's not my fault for an englit major you can't read!
