Places like Angkor Wat in south-east asia are pretty freaking cool... theres always some place new to explore because they're always so big.
Also I swear I saw the author Matthew Reilly when I was there.

I really like the Fallingwater style. Was the inspiration for the house at the end of North by Northwest.

Sort of like how the Cathedral of Cordoba was a Roman temple then a Catholic church then a Mosque and then finally a Catholic church. The blue Mosque though is original IIRC.
Actually the blue mosque is not original. It's called Agia Sofia and it was originally a byzantine era christian orthodox church. The turks only added the surrounding towers later.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hagia_Sophia
The design of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque is the culmination of two centuries of both Ottoman mosque and Byzantine church development. It incorporates some Byzantine elements of the neighboring Hagia Sophia with traditional Islamic architecture and is considered to be the last great mosque of the classical period. The architect has ably synthesized the ideas of his master Sinan, aiming for overwhelming size, majesty and splendour.

According to wikipedia they are two different places. Hagia Sophia itself was turned into a Mosque though.

Its scarily modern.

I would've expected ~80s, maybe 90s.

Some stuff I have designed.  I design mostly one off houses in the country side. I live and work in a designated Area of Outstanding Beauty on the North Coast of Ireland. So planning is very strict on the shape, height, form and style of dwellings in the country. Which dictates the style.

So, while I was upnorth waiting on my sister to have her twins, I discovered a local architect that built these incredibly cute little houses. The are called "hobbit house" by some and "mushroom house" by others. But he builds them out of stones and boulders.  His name is Earl Young. He is a boulder architect. Google Earl young houses(i will post pic once i am not on phone). Very cute.

edit:Thank you seniortoenails.

I just found one for sale for the low low price of $1,250,000.  I'm gonna start saving now...

I like American Gothic, also brown stones, I love brown stones.

I dislike 60s/70s architecture. In many cases, the older a city, the more beautiful.

i like neoclassical stuff for cities... im prone to big ornate symbols and public spaces being very noble and pronounced

but for houses i absolutely adore (post)-modernism and all the smaller sub-sets and idioms of design that have branched off

it's more like structural expressionist or late modernist.  It's kind of in the same vein as brutalism.  I guess it's a mash-up of international, brutalism and modernist styles.
