id call those strategic simulations. when i think RTS I think of shitty games like age of empires and command and conquer.

almost all recent big titles tried to copy WoW's style and failed miserably.

Sins of a Solar Empire is up there as one of the best.
Had some actual epic battles in that game with friends.

I'm guessing this one's to list community recommendations for RTS games. It'll probably turn into something more like a global list because people mistake it for a list-all-games thread.

Yeah, the games take hours, but if you haven't got the company to spend a good few hours on a game then I can understand why you wouldn't like it.
As said, I've had some amazing battles in that game. Pirated it originally and then bought it and all expansions because it was so good (and because you need a legit version to get the latest patches).
Also, Dawn of War is brilliant.
DoW2 Last Stand is pretty cool, too, but overall, DoW2 sucked.
