Newsflash: Tf2 is supposed to be a casual game.
nope, sorry. tell me where in the product description or game-design blog they mention the words 'casual'.AussieReaper wrote:

tf2 was heralded as one of the best team-based competitive games to be released in recent years- it had a big competitive community that valve actually solicited advice and testing-help from in order to make, in earlier days when they were on the ball, balance fixes and changes to keep the GREAT game-balance in check.
i love it when people say tf2 is a casual game, only meant to be played for 5 minutes of lulz-per-week. how wrong they are. it's the natural successor to TFC for fuck's sake, which was one of the most hardcore team-based competitive games ever, period.

And tbh Uzique I can't think of a game that has gotten more fixes than TF2, just look at the patch history... what other game recieves day-to-day hotfixes and weekly patches?
EDIT: And just as Reaper I don't give a rats arse about competetive balance.. fun > competetive gameplay..
If you want balance and everything to be 100% equal and fair, go play some instagib Q3 or UT3

rofl instagib q3 or ut3, hahaha.
patches and fixes for what? the imbalances and bugs they've introduced with their gimmick-content upgrades?
jesus christ you'll congratulate and thank valve for anything, won't you.
and regarding this tired 'competitive' versus 'fun' argument... im not talking about professional OMG 12-hrs-a-day 'competitive', im using the term in the simplest sense; that is, i think the first concern of a team-based FPS game should be the competitive basis and focus between two teams versus one another, and in turn i believe the maximum amount of 'fun' will be naturally derived from the very virtue of the game's fantastic balance and equal-pitting of player againt player, team against team. your idea of 'fun' is content that skews and ruins this balance in place of a novelty-item or useless game-mode that even you will stop using in 2 week's time. fantastic.

Well I know for sure that I probably would have stopped playing TF2 a long time ago if it was not for these updates and their content...
Once you've played ~300 hours with the same 9 base classes it gets abit old

ive played ~1000 and only used default weapons, classes and maps/game-modes... excepting gold-rush. no custom content.
gets a bit old for you, maybe. there's a large population of tf2 players that beg to differ.

And that's why your steam profile reads:
Hypocrite.Retired from gaming pro-scene in '09; now playing TF2 casually, having played competitively since Beta. Also playing CS: Source, searching for an active team. In my spare time I am an English Literature undergraduate, writer and fulltime wino.
yeah... i play the game in a casual fashion, i.e. not 6-hours-a-day of practice for a league team.
read up for my 'fun' versus 'competitive' point. cause you don't have one.
also, incidentally, i haven't updated my steam profile to any extent in about... a year.

erm, hahaha, how?
you do realize that 'casual' as a product-description is different to 'casual' playing-habits / time-consumption, which is in turn different again from 'casual' used an insulting pejorative, right? or are you just being thick and obtuse on purpose to carry some slight notion of a 'point'? i now play "casually", as stated on my profile, to signify to my (former) friends that i am no longer available for league matches and proper fixtures, i.e. i am not playing the game for that aspect anymore. the game being 'casual' BY DESIGN or purposefully AIMED AT casual players, i.e. negating the existence of a 'competitive' aspect (NOT leagues/professionals, but 'competitive' in the simple, literal sense) is something you cannot show me; that is, you cannot show me where the tf2 developers have said in a patch or blogpost that the game is aimed exclusively at casual-fun and not in any way towards a modicum of balance or a similitude of team-versus-team driven competitivity. furthermore, the third instance of the word 'casual' (which i label 'pejorative') is the one i used against you, as a reaction to the accusation "Wow, you're so hardcore".
i think that clears it up. and you're done here.

hahahah amazing twist.
you know yourself that typing a paragraph takes about as much time as blinking an eye, in every-day forum terms.
and my last post wasn't caring about the game so much as taking care to dispatch of your shitty retardation.

People who play competitively have absolutely no fun doing so.
Obviously.

if only i could relax into a habit of camping the steam-user forums and playing with golden wrenches - that is the key to happiness!

I tried holding Mouse1 + W in once on a 32 player instaspawn 2fort server once, but it was way too much fun for me to handle.
I had to go to my boring and uneventful 6v6 to recover.

you bring nothing of value yourself, floppy.
you say you're bored of the 'standard, default' modes of tf2, but then laugh at defcon when he makes a joke and implies that the competitive, 6v6 mode (i.e. the fucking STANDARD DEFAULT) is better? you're a moron, plain and simple.
