I can't actually believe that the person writing that is serious. They obviously don't know anything about software or operating systems and are just basing it on smilar articles that don't look at the full picture. PS I'm not an anti Mikersoft Linux freak, Windows has its good points but for most of the things listed in that article I would recomend Linux any day. Having said that I know most ATMs have been replaced with Windows instead of OS/2 which is kind of worrying.......

I read the first paragraph and stopped reading. Nothing wrong with open source software wich you can get really cheap and doesn't act like a computer nazi, checking everything you do for licenses.
I've only used Linux afew times, even though I own a couple of variations of it (including the red hat terror... lol). I still use microsoft.
And for the record, Microsoft gets hacked more than a side of beef at a butcher shop. Look at how many Government sites were *h4ax0r3d> even though they were running on the almighty Microsoft Windows platform.

Like the Mac OS, and Firefox, much of Linux's higher security is due to "Security through obscurity." If any of the aformentioned products ever got the level of market share of their MS counterpart, they too would have security issues that would need to be addressed on a regular basis. Since 90% of the worlds computers ship with Windows as the OS, obviously that is where hackers are going to target their attacks.
I do reckon it's purely satirical, but the link to the "Shelly Goodman" page on the republican national committee GOP site at the top made me wonder. Hence this thread to see if anyone would defend what she said in the post. Doesn't look like we've got many takers, and the google group seems to be split between people who say it is genuine and people who say it is not. The ghosts of Charles Babbage and Alan Turing rose up infront of my screen and rattled their chains in anger, demanding recompense for this gross injustice. They then calmed down a bit and asked me for my opinion on Windows vs Linux, which I duly gave.
