I'm getting very tired of the Coalition's catch phrase "great big tax" or now "great big bureaucracy".

It's just one "great big" cliche.

To be fair Jaekus, that is kinda their target constituency... The people who don't like taxes, don't like bureaucracy, don't like big govt. expenditure and don't like govt. interference in their lives beyond maintaining basic services.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Oh, I'm not aiming my comment at their target constituency or their policy, it's just the actual catch phrase itself. Can't they come up with a different one?

It's not as bad as 'close the gap' and 'ease the squeez'... really now...

I mean fucking ease the fucking squeez.... It drove me nuts.

the way the coalition is putting it atm - especially peter dutton today - is nothing short of lame and pathetic though. it's kinda sad.

what about the ets?

Rudd can backflip as much as he wants now to make the budget look better. If we had a stronger opposition he wouldn't be able to get away with this.

the whole ets thing is a debacle of the highest order. i think what businesses want most of all right now is to get the damn thing passed once and for all so they don't have this "will-he-won't-he" retardation hanging over their heads.

Dont give me that crap spark, the libs had an agreement to put it through , now they backed out because the new leader couldnt give a fuck about the environment.  Labor know they wont get it through senate , so they dont try. Personally I think it should be tried, even if it means double dissolution but Rudd wont take the risk. The libs agreed to put it through then went back on their word, thats a key issue here.

I am really not happy about postponing the ETS, to the point where I will probably vote green at the next election. I will preference Libs last of course as they want to do absolutely nothing about Climate Change.

then put it on the fucking election table and let the public bloody vote for it. three fucking years is too long.

and it would be a brave man who called me for not caring about climate change.

i don't really care if the scheme doesn't really work. THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO HAVE A SCHEME SO WE CAN SEE HOW IT WORKS IN REALITY AND FUCKING FIX IT.

so yeah i'm heading towards the informal for my first election. if the greens decide to change their minds and actually develop a policy then i might change my mind.

Isn't the Greens policy to bitch about everything and not propose any real ideas?

that and "80 by 50!" which is completely and totally meaningless since they haven't proposed any mechanisms for doing so.

I know they don't need a policy but geez it's hard to take them seriously otherwise.

yah. whether deserved or not they are now a major political force. but before they get my vote (which they probably will eventually since my views align best with theirs) they have to start acting like one, not like just-another minor party who can say whatever insubstantial thing they like because no one gives a shit about them.

I'm prety sure I didnt do that.
I pretty much agree that we need something and the ETS was the closest solution at the moment. I am utterly shat off that Abbott and his right wing cronies in the libs canned it. So I blame them primarily. Second though, I also think it stinks that the ALP hasnt got the backbone to back this. I have also heard that the NSW labor right helped kill this one for the next few years ( Labor in NSW gets so much right dont they) as a consequence , I wont vote for a party that isnt getting behind some sort of Climate change solution. So it will be greens for me as well. Obviously this is a protest vote, and I hope it gets through. As I said before I wil be preferencing Libs at the bottom as they are too far right at the moment. Bring Turnbull back into some sort of meaningful role, get rid of Abbott, and who knows ( but I doubt it)

what seat do you live in? obviously it might be different if you aren't living in one of the safest labor seats in the country

I live in Bowman (QLD). Its owned by the libs, but is one of the most marginal ( if not the most) in Oz. I think they won by 50votes. I am pretty sure they will get in again and Andrew Laming will get his smirking face in the local rag again.

ah well that's a different situation to me then, there i could well understand the "less evil/not liberal" kind of vote. here though it's basically a conscience vote for me since this is such a safe seat.

I would vote for Turnbull for PM, if he could be his own man and not just a mouthpiece for Howard and the backroom speechwriters.
Abbott not a chance in hell.

The ETS would be the most monumental stuff-up this country has seen, the batts and BER would be nothing.
The govt deciding who can emit what and how much tax they each have to pay for it? Can't see that being a mess.
