No, I'm being totally serious. If it wasn't for lil' Messi, we would have seriously struggled. You pressured the ball at every minute, not even letting Xavi get anything good on the ball.... We hardly touched your box in the first 15 minutes... I knew it wasn't going to last because no team can withstand constant pressure and running, but how you started off the match was how any team should start it against Barcelona.

Arsenal didn't have a poor game. You just got raped by one man, that's all.

Messi is close to already being the greatest player ever. But, and it's a big but, he needs to perform on the international stage still. Plenty of time left in his career to do that, but a shitty Argentine squad will probably let him down. Imagine if this guy was Spanish.
Problem is, Maradona is a cunt. Plan and simple. He can't manage to save his life.

I'm seriously going to titty-slap the next person who says Rooney's the best player in the world right now.

As always when it comes to these lame "best player in the world arguments" there is never a definitive answer because it's impossible to compare different leagues and teams.

Messi is the best to watch yes, and is without doubt joint best in the world.

But remember this, Messi is surrounded by class players with unbelievable skill and the ability to intimidate any team. Rooney on the other hand has pretty much carried the entire manchester utd team this season, he has been a leader ad well as their best player by a million miles, united's midfield and other forwards isn't even in the same league as barcelonas....you can not say Messi is "better" than him, well not IMO anyway.

Perhaps if you moved both of them into the italian/german league into the same team, then and only then could you compare.

Hopefully united will meet them in the final, another good way to compare would be to see who influences the outcome of that match.

Martin Tyler did some of his stats wizardry on his blog earlier on in the season.

A fan asked who's goals have been the most important for their team.

Drogba topped the list, without his goals Chelsea would be 15 points worse off
Without Rooney's United would be 8 points worse off.

Ah here it is

It was an interesting read, as it proves, Rooney has not been carrying United, and to suggest that before saying Drogba has is frankly stupid.

I know Drogba has done so more than Rooney, but that's not the point, I was attempting to compare Messi and Rooney, where did I say anything about Drogba?

All I said was:

Rooney has been united's best player by a long way
United rely on Rooney more than barca rely on Messi

Wow. That's pretty much bollocks. Even commentators were saying that Rooney and Messi were close.... like 2 weeks ago. Now everyone accepts Messi is the greatest and he is miles ahead of any player.

I'm sorry, but Rooney is in no way on par with Messi in any way. He's fantastic, and definitely one of the worlds best, but not anywhere close to Messi. As shown by his performance last night.

Messi can rape any team he wants, without needing the support of his team. Rooney, on the other hand, cannot. Rooney requires a solid midfield to give him the opportunities he has at goal, whereas Messi can produce out of nothing. Sure, Messi has a great team surrounding him, but as shown from last night, his goals were pretty much crafted out of nothing. Rooney cannot do that, he needs players like Giggs, Park and Valencia to feed him for him to produce.

I still think it's a little early to call him the greatest ever of all time. The best player right now yes, of all time, not just yet. Ronaldinho springs to mind, look what happened to him, he became a lazy player, if Messi can keep up this form for his career then yes, because what he can do is amazing.

I disagree on Rooney not being able to create goals out of nothing, he can and does, however when you've got players like Valencia, Nani, Giggs etc in the team, you don't need to do that.

Chelsea have played 14 matches this season without Drogba starting, resulting in 13 wins and a draw.

Malouda has been more important that Drogba this year, imo (wow, if you'd have told me that a year and a half ago...)

I still rate Maradona to be the best of all time. If Messi is to reach that status, he'd need to a) lead an average national team to World Cup glory and/or b) lead an average club to win the league.

Maradonna did both, I doubt Messi will do either.

Before the Chelsea game, United had won 10 out of their last 11 without Rooney, drawing the other one too, some of those were from last year though. I'm not sure how many have been this season, we miss him when he's not playing, but don't rely on him.

I bet those games were against crap teams. Man Utd need rooney for the big games IMO. They might get through today, infact I'm sure they will, just that it won't be comfortable by a long shot

C'mon Munchen. That Olic goal saved us what would have been a dire second half.
