I know I have to go into the start menu, but what do I do from there.

I'll look around the interwebs to see if I can figure it out.

Also I think I know what I did wrong, I loaded the 32 bit client not the 64 bit.  Once I get 64 bit enabled I should be able to get the 64 bit to work.

Hi guys

Speccing up a pc, wondered if this will work

980x
6gb kingston hyperx 2ghz
1x gtx 295 (for folding, but will be using this card (and only this card) for gaming)
1x 260GTX
(however many i can use)x9800GTX 512mb
EVGA Classified 4-way sli (7 pci-e slots) mboard.

How would I configure it ? Is a corsiar hx1000 enough to power it all ?

I would be folding flat out 24/7 on the 260gtx and the 9800's, and also on the 295 gtx when not using it for gaming.

Thanks.

Don't buy it yet. nVidia are away to release their new cards VERY soon. Just wait.

They have now, 20kppd per card, same as 295 gtx however more expensive and run hotter and use more power. /fail.

How many ppd am i looking at for the EVGA 275/250 hybrid card ? around 15kppd ?

This is the proposed setup, my budget is £3k but I can go a bit over.

No case - would just make a box for it and place it in there. I have a noctua tower cpu cooler and lots of fans lying around.

Would this setup thereby work ? This will run in my spare room.

They are doing this now for COVID-19 research. I don't expect it to do much but waste electricity but at least it isn't Bitcoin mining.

It's is certainly a proactive thing you could be doing.

FOLDING@HOME UPDATE ON SARS-COV-2 (10 MAR 2020)
https://foldingathome.org/2020/03/10/covid19-update

This is an update on Folding@home’s efforts to assist researchers around the world taking up the global fight against COVID-19.

After initial quality control and limited testing phases, Folding@home team has released an initial wave of projects simulating potentially druggable protein targets from SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) and the related SARS-CoV virus (for which more structural data is available) into full production on Folding@home. Many thanks to the large number of Folding@home donors who have assisted us thus far by running in beta or advanced modes.

This initial wave of projects focuses on better understanding how these coronaviruses interact with the human ACE2 receptor required for viral entry into human host cells, and how researchers might be able to interfere with them through the design of new therapeutic antibodies or small molecules that might disrupt their interaction.
FOLDING@HOME TAKES UP THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19 / 2019-NCOV 2/27
https://foldingathome.org/2020/02/27/fo … -2019-ncov

We need your help! Folding@home is joining researchers around the world working to better understand the 2019 Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) to accelerate the open science effort to develop new life-saving therapies. By downloading Folding@Home, you can donate your unused computational resources to the Folding@home Consortium, where researchers working to advance our understanding of the structures of potential drug targets for 2019-nCoV that could aid in the design of new therapies. The data you help us generate will be quickly and openly disseminated as part of an open science collaboration of multiple laboratories around the world, giving researchers new tools that may unlock new opportunities for developing lifesaving drugs.
Foldit protein-folding game is on a quest to solve the COVID-19 puzzle 3/4
https://www.slashgear.com/foldit-protei … e-04612078

Games have a rather mixed public image, depending on who you ask. While many see it as useless pastimes or even bad influences, some consider these interactive activities as a form of art or medium for education. Few, however, probably expect games to save lives, let alone find the cure that will save lives. Yet that is exactly what the University of Washington’s game is trying to do, calling upon the creative brain cells of gamers to discover the protein structure that will stop the spread of the COVID-19 novel coronavirus.

Unequivocally, yes.

I do drug discovery. One important part is knowing the molecular target, which requires precise knowledge of structural elements of complex proteins.

Some of these are solved by x-ray crystallography, but Folding@Home has solved several knotty problems for proteins that are not amenable to this approach.

Bottom line is that we are actively designing drugs based on the solutions of that program, and that's only the aspect that pertains to my particular research.
