Sounds good to me. Just finally starting to enforce the laws. Nothing wrong with that...right?

Uh oh, enforcing laws? Must be them racists again, unfairly targeting people who are just trying to better themselves.

who cares, break the law, u pay the consequences. I dont even see why there is a debate.  I dont get to break the law for jack so i dont see why people with excuses get to.

Awsome that they are actually enforcing this crap now. Whats scary is that i believe homeland security just retained haliburton to provide 'temporary housing and processing facilities'. So does this mean someone is gonna turn a buck on this situation however plays? Thats whats more sickening.  I wonder if its possible to get someone in office who isnt in the pocket of big buisness?

a man can dream

constitutional amendment anyone?

seperation of church, state and buisness.

Are you attempting to put words in my mouth? Because I haven't stated my opinion on the article yet.

Must be that government again, trying to draw our attention away from the war in Iraq and GW's falling approval rating.  Seriously though, why start now?  Personally, I think it is a great idea to go after these companies.  I just question the timing of these raids, because these laws have been on the books for literally decades, so why 4/20/06?  There is some sort of political agenda, I guess we will just have to wait and see what it is.

I agree, we need to start enforcing the laws already on the books instead of tinkering around and legitimizing millions of criminals.

By targeting the businesses that employ illegals this will dry up the job pool available to them and discourage others from coming to this country illegally. There also needs to be a crackdown on illegals already in the country. The policy of local police not reporting illegals that they arrest for other violations needs to stop.

As long as the Mexican population is willing to work for less in wages than Americans and as long as there is a black market for importing illegals into the USA this proplem is unfixable. In fact, the black market of immigration is going to make more money off of it in the long run. Just as the marijuana dealers have been raking in for years....and will continue too. Just like alcohol prohibition before it.

Which is why we should be working to eliminate the job market for illegals. If there's no work for them here then why would they come?

If you hit those employing illegals hard enough then they'll be forced to pay a decent wage to legal workers. Let's not forget that by employing low wage illegals that these employers are breaking numerous laws, including minimum wage and tax laws.

You cant hit those employers hard enough. Business comes down to the bottom line. Employee overhead takes away from that bottom line and Americans are the biggest overhead in the working world as far as wages.  They will use illegal workers as long as they can make it into the nation.

Sure you can hit them hard enough. Would tax evasion charges be a slap on the wrist? How would you like to face the possibility of having your business and assets seized and being sent to jail? If I were facing this situation it would certainly change my hiring policy PDQ.

Send the message to people that hiring illegals is a bad idea, then there won't be jobs for them and less reason for them to come here.

No business owner (unless he is illegal himself) will spend time incarcerated because of his illegal hiring practices. Especially if he is a white male in America. NO WAY! Incarcerating American business owners for hiring illegal aliens.....nope. Not gonna happen. House arrest maybe, community service maybe, but siezing business and assets? I don't see it happening.  This whole "immigration shakedown" is a huge joke that won't mean shit in 6 months.

That may well happen if people resign to the idea that nothing will be done, but if enough folks keep this issue alive then something will have to be done. Call and write to your elected officials and let them know how you feel about an issue. That's what they're there for. Do it often enough and they'll eventually get the idea.
