Edit: Finished Dark Carnival and got half way through Hard Rain before I closed the game down in sheer boredom. Yes I know. Singleplayer is rubbish and I should play VS to get a real idea of what its like. Etc etc. I will later. But yes, the singleplayer at least is identical to L4D1. Identical.
Edit2: Played some Scavenge mode now. It's fun. It would be nice if they added it to L4D1 so I could play it without the terrible characters, rubbish music and plastic weapons. I like the Charger the best. Jockey seems 100% useless.

I thought coop is way better than it was in L4D. Except that the endless horde parts are fucking horrible and bad and horrible.
Scavenge is indeed fun.
Jockey is only good in certain situations, just like smoker.
Plastic weapons? I thought the weapon system is much, much better in this game. First of all you actually run out of ammo. There aren't ammo piles laying around every 50 meters. That also means you can't just whore that autoshotgun all the way because you will be forced to put it out for some random weapon, simply because you need ammo. Secondly there is more variation in weapons. Yes they might behave closely to each other but variation is still nice. I would rather have lots of more "just differently skinned" weapons even if the actual differences are minimal.
Agreed on the music part though, and the characters don't have that kind of feeling they had in L4D.
Other good added things are the versus scoring that actually works, 10x better than L4D's. Witches that are actually have variation and can't just be crowned with one shot from shotty 100% of the time. Much less corner-camping. Somewhat less linear levels
In my opinion it pretty much has everything I liked in L4D and more stuff added. Apart from valve's fucktardism, what's there not to like? I certainly would not have bought this for the retail price in Finland but I am glad I ditched my "principles" did buy if for what I paid (thanks to Dauntless)

It's lolz, getting all four of you, running up to a witch, each smacking her with melee at once. Melee does 250 damage, witch has 1000 HP. Dead.
DU I meant plastic weapons as in they all feel like plastic toys. The sound effects and animations makes every single one of them (except the M16 and old Autoshotty funnily enough) feel uber crap. Especially the Desert Eagle. Urgh. I do like more variation as well, but did they have to make them all so terrible?
I've had no trouble so far with witches either. Run up to them, blam. Dead. In fact the 'wandering' witches are even easier than the old ones because you don't even need to aim downwards.
Haven't played Versus yet. I'm planning on waiting until I have people to play it with.

It seems to me (from demo and reading reviews) that it's a $20 expansion at the most. I say at the most because Valve really did not keep their promise about adding significantly more content to L4D1...the primary basis that I bought it on in the first place. Seems to me like both of the games combined comes out to about one $50 game plus a little more...
