Xbox/PS3 were invented.
I don't think you realize that these were always console games.

Ach, I didn't really follow it. Wasn't there up to like 13 on the PS2?

The point I was making is that since the XBox 360/PS3 were released, casual gaming became available - and cheap. Mass market, more buying power, devs turn to pleasing the casual gamer, not someone who actually wants, I dunno, a good game.

JRPGs suck, and have been virtually untouched by changes in the market.

Continuing my running commentary of my tales playing this archetypical Jap game, I just did the train mission thing and fought that deformed Zombie thing, now I'm running around the town of Timber blasting fools and after a cheeky look at a walkthrough, found out where the hell the place is that I had to go, they sort of put it in a stupid part of the town, and the "map" they gave you was fucking stupid, if anyone knows what map of Timber I'm talking about, you'll realise

Yeah that map is useless. I was way confused when I first went through.

I could never get into the FF thing.  I know RPG's aren't the pinnacle of realism, but it always seemed over the top, even by genre standards.

Also, why are female characters always dangerously under protected?

How did the PS3 and 360 change casual gaming?  The casual gamer has always been there, same as the serious gamer.  The difference is that more people are playing games period.  The older generation that grew up on Intellivision, Atari and NES are the core of the casual gamer population.
