Well I prefer historic fantasy (swords and arrows not pewpews)
But I agree with the elves and dwarves thingie... seriously, fantasy does not equal elves and dwarves. Just look at Wheel of Time, brilliant fantasy but no elves or dwarves.
I'm also geting slightly tired of fighting orcs all the time (or darkspawn as they are called in DA)
Why can't the superior evil horde you're bound to fight at some point be humans? not the standard "Once human, twisted by evil, now feeding on flesh of the living. And want to take over world for no other reason then that's what's expected of them." creatures.
I would prefer something like: "The evil empire over there is gonna take over the world becuase their emperor wishes to rape every woman on the planet." Much more realistic and makes more sense then orcs just doing their thing.

But that said, I f'in love Dragon Age, best game I've played in years....

fallout 3 wasn't that bad. Just really over-rated.

There are loads of different RPG archetypes, eg Pokemon, Baldurs Gate, jRPGs like final fantasy, fpsRPGs like borderlands etc etc.

Fallout 3 was an awful FPSRPG. In probably the best, but most difficult genre, it's can't compete. Combat was awful, vats was boring, repetitive, and annoying. Story was short and bland. Barely any humour, which the other fallouts were chock full of.

A huge disappointment, better than bioshock and far cry 2.

For those who don't like all that Wizard shit it's probably not the 'best genre'. But when the odd one comes along that isn't the typical wizard/dungeon/fantasy shit it's worth looking into it, that's what I did with Fallout 3. Apart from Pokemans it was the only "RPG" I've ever actually bought

The story was interesting, but from a FPS stand point it didn't offer much. The hold still while I aim at tiny bits of you to automatically aim and shoot in a cool cinematic style, took away the whole FP"shooter" experience.

I can't comment much on the RPG side, I rarely play those games.

Oh, I thought you meant RPG in general, not FPSRPG. I've played about halfway through Deus Ex, but it was abit too retro for me afterwards, and over reliant on stealth. Also you could barely call that an RPG of any sort.

Dude you didn't get half way then.

By half-way through the game (on easy, normal or realistic) you should be able to handle most firefights and rambo your way into bases blowing shit up left right and centre.
