Where did IW learn a word like erroneous?

An official statement released by the video game publisher said: "Reports that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been banned in Russia are erroneous. Activision only released a PC version of the game in Russia which went on sale on Tuesday, Nov. 10."

You do know the story behind Activision's new CEO that's pushing IW and Treyarch to develop games like this right?

You do realise it was a deliberate decision from the board of directors to do this, not Infinity Ward chasing cash. As I said to Tim, I think all the PC playing devs in IW got the sack.

Yeah he's seen the $$$ Blizzard have attracted with WoW and thinks he can get in on the action too by releasing more pay-as-you-go orientated games, which is perfect for the xbox'er crowd who pay for their online service.

Speculation much:

According to Gamespot, Kotick "pointed to changes he implemented in the past as being particularly beneficial, such as designing the employee incentive program so it 'really rewards profit and nothing else.

"We have a real culture of thrift," Kotick said. "The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games."

The CEO's long-term vision, in his own words, is to instill the corporate culture with "skepticism, pessimism, and fear...We are very good at keeping people focused on the deep depression." You'd think the man might've learned his lesson when indivuals and press organizations decried his plan to strictly focus on games that "have the potential to be exploited every year on every platform with clear sequel potential and have the potential to become $100 million dollar franchises."
http://news.filefront.com/activision-ce … 1-billion/

More speculation omg:

Essentially, Kotick is in thrall to the almighty dollar to the expense of all else. Thus: “In the last cycle of videogames you spent $50 on a game, played it and took it back to the shop for credit. Today, we’ll (charge) $100 for a guitar. You might add a microphone or drums; you might buy two or three expansions packs, different types of music. Over the life of your ownership you’ll probably buy around 25 additional song packs in digital downloads. So, what used to be a $50 sale is a $500 sale today.”

Maybe the choice quotes of the event, though, came when Kotick talked about Activision’s developers; you know, the guys who actually make the stuff he gets so rich from. You’d think he’d have a bit of respect for them, right? Oh no, Kotick’s goal over the past 10 years has been – you couldn’t make this up – “to take all the fun out of making video games.” How? By instilling a culture of “scepticism, pessimism, and fear” amongst the company’s staff based around the economic depression and an incentive program that rewards “profit and nothing else”.

those articles are still bias, assumptive and hence SPECULATIVE

you do nothing to prove-wrong the conception that you're just some digg.com-esque bandwagon fanboy. quoting shitty blogs and dubious articles written from partisan editors... meh. i dont even like mw2 that much, im really not fussed on it, but im principally arguing against asstards like you that somehow find the most tenuous claim credible because some similarly-dumbminded fuck wrote an article on it in learned language.

inferring and implicating unsaid things from quotes = speculation. quotes have context. quotes have intended meanings.

dont act dumb like a direct-quote and whatever analysis/comment is made on it is gospel. yes, he said 'x' in 'y' interview. it doesn't layout the masterplan for 'z'.

No, don't bother. That'd be speculation.

being in it for the money is an obvious assertion. implicating some shitty plan for subscription-services, tons of DLC and general cash-cow schemes however, is another. i wouldnt actually be surprised if they introduced something in the near-future to generate more revenue, but there's nothing incorrect in stating that all guesses towards that for now are SPECULATION. colouring your view of the game and being disdainful, complaintive and generally bitchy just because a bunch of blogs/websites are half-guessing is pretty pathetic. omg yes a big-business is out to make maximum money and maximum profitz. woopty do. valve are doing the exact same thing now with the extortionately priced, separately released l4d2. games developers do it every year with their half-assed shovelware revisions of the command and conquer series, for example, and people still buy into it with no complaints. they're all just trying to make money, lets be honest. none of these sequels or big titles have been about developing intellectual property or quality games; they're all released economically when the design-team thinks it's time to make some more dolluh.

Kotick said, has no interest in games that “don’t have the potential to be exploited every year on every platform with clear sequel potential and have the potential to become $100 million franchises.”

Modern Warfare 2, Kotick said: “if it was left to me, I would raise the prices even further.”
http://www.geeks.co.uk/7282-activision% … -games-you

This must be an example of me just speculating on what he really thinks and I just don't understand his "masterplan" and all those gaming magazines are commentators are just making "half guesses" and they don't know the "masterplan" either...

You're not exactly presenting much of an argument there Uzique.

im not saying he has a 'masterplan', i used the term satirically because all of the commentators are guessing as if there's some huge scheme for DLC, subscriptions and general financial-rape behind the closed, secretive curtains. i don't particularly find anything all that disgusting in a business-man just being honest: yes, we want to make lots of money; yes, we want to develop games that will become million-dollar franchises; no, we don't see the use in developing a game that lacks this potential. isn't that pretty much the ideal goal of every game company nowadays? can you name me a development studio that are just doing it for the love of the craft and industry? if every executive and sharkish businessman in a suit was as honest as this kotick fella, im sure the entire blogosphere would permanently be in a state of menstrual release.

Maybe you missed it but the price of MW:2 was how much...? The secretive price gouging is become a little less secretive and I don't think anyone is going to be surprised if this is a sign of things to come. Especially in terms of paid DLC. What the "guessing" is based on isn't a straw man blowing in the wind. It's from the man himself.

I'd take your opinion more seriously if it looked like wild guessing, but to me the evidence is starting to mount.
