AFAIK, nearly impossible without fucking up the rest of the song in the process. You could try applying filters and such, but it would wind up screwing other stuff up too.

I feel for ya. So many good songs that I just want instrumentals of

Not likely, the music you buy/obtain/steal isn't composed of multiple tracks like the original studio recording, it's a single file.

Well what song is it? There might already be an instrumental version.

Especially if it was released as a single, quite a lot of artists put instrumental versions of songs on the release as b-sides.

Yeah, you'd need the master recording or a really expensive program.

Or if you can find the acapellas you can invert the phase and just paste it on top of the song. Although this probably won't work too well.

There are programs that have a "karaoke" mode, that removes the voice, but it doesn't work that well. You could give it a try though.

Can't be done without the original recording, I'm afraid. Anything you'll do will make you lose some music as well.

You can try this..

This is a tutorial on how to get rid of vocals/lyrics from a song. It is easier than you think. This will work for a lot of songs, especially rock songs. It does not work well with rap songs though.

It's great to do because you can round up all your friends and family for a Karaoke night

Audacity is Freeware and you can download it here:

I doubt the results would be suitable.

If you can find a vocal only version of the song, as well as the song, you can invert the phase of the vocal only version so they cancel each other out. They both need to be CD versions though, it doesn't work with mp3's.
