Halo 2 however was. Pretty much started the XBL/PSN wave.
There were plenty of online multiplayer games before then. Maybe Halo 2 was just one of the first few games that took the next step, but everyone else had planned to do that anyway.
Halo 1 didn't do shit in terms of general gaming. For console FPS's? It's arguable, sure.
