President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued a typically inflammatory statement only hours before Mr ElBaradei arrived in Tehran. "Our answer to those who are angry about Iran obtaining the full nuclear cycle is one phrase, we say: Be angry and die of this anger," he said.

http://news.independent.co.uk/world/mid … 357645.ece

Even Russia and China, urged Iran to resume its uranium enrichment freeze.

PS:I am aware of the other topic "Iran getting closer now" however I do think this topic should  focus more on the attitude of Iran  rather than the progress of their Nuclear program. If an admin sees this as needing to be in the other topic feel free to move, I just think these are two different discussions.

Getting ugly faster and faster.

TEHRAN, Iran - The president of
Iran again lashed out at
Israel on Friday and said it was "heading toward annihilation," just days after Tehran raised fears about its nuclear activities by saying it successfully enriched uranium for the first time.

"The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm."

An all out nuclear was between the US and Iran is unlikely, Iran doesn't have the capabilities to detonate one in the US, if they would, their country would be turned to nothing. But Iran blowing up other countries in the middle east is definetely a possibility.

Iran... the country we shoudl've[/1] invaded all along...

They've been making imflammatory comments for so long now, and have all but asked for a confrontation.

Their nuclear capability is completely non-existent at the moment, though, and even in the number of years that it takes to develop it (they say 5 - 10) they won't be building ICBM's. Of course, if they did, we would most certainly be invading. It is true, however, that they could launch a strike against Israel, but it's more likely that Israel will deliver the first blow, independent of any of our actions.

I think it's inevitable at some point we will be forced to go to war with Iran. They say one of the fears is that Iranian-linked Hezbollah will start large-scale terrorist attacks in the Middle East and around the world. I say... no way. If we punched Iran so hard that it couldn't fund, much less communicate with Hezbollah, it would be like pulling the carpet out from underneath them. You want to see a terrorist organization run scared? Kick the crap out of its host country... just look what happened with Afghanistan and Al Qaeda.

The real problem isn't that other organizations or countries would rally against us militarily... because no matter what, no one in their right minds wants to pick a fight with the US (meaning Iran [i]is
crazy)

The real problem is that we are currently, plainly, just spread too thin. We're in two theaters of battle with the bulk of our reserve deployed. We are still stationed around the world in case other issues become problems (like Korea)... so where's the big rolling horde of US Troops going to come from? Naive planners say only a massive bombing campaign will be all that's necessary to destabilize the regime enough to be overthrown... but that's bs.

And the worst part... for the first time since 1945 talk of the use of nukes is being heard... it's said that if Iran is running Uranium-enriching centrifuges 75 ft. underground in reinforced concrete bunkers, then the only way to get that deep and destroy the centrifuges are by using bunker-busting bombs... nuclear bunker-busting bombs.

my $.02 USD? I think it's really frigging scary. We are going to war...

Damn, not so much italics!

Personally I think we shouldn't even think of doing anything forcible until they can enrich uranium to double-figures.

i saw on the point of existence forums about a new bunkerbusting bomb that is going to be tested in may
20,000 pounds of explosives and it will be the largests mushroom cloud scince a detination of a nuclear bomb

put a few of those on some B 52s
to bad its not ready or i think a few would already be around germany turkey or isreal just waiting for iran to make the next dumbass step

bunkerbusting nuclear bombs wont work, since if a bunker is 1000ft underground, the bomb would only be under ground only 50ft if its lucky, and the radiation will spread to as far as india. india will not like that will it? the best way is to use presicion guided bombs and hit all the entrances in the tunnel so no one can get in or out

I am becoming quite fond of you Europeons in the same way a person could become found of their strange little cousin at the family reunion that wears his underwear on the outside of his pants because he ran a high fever when a toddler.  Sure it is fun to watch his antics and you feel sorry for him, but you just can't seem to forget that time he took a shit on Aunt Beas lap and ruined the wedding.

So here's to you; you socialists in Spain, you indignant Frenchmen, you Nazis in Germany, you pacifist in Belguim, and you pot heads in Austria.

And here's to enjoying your antics until the next time you shit on Aunt Beas lap.

I respectfully disagree... most of the nuclear testing we conducted was... underground, and not far outside civilian populations... and when underground, the radiation doesn't spread that far, definitely not to India.

Here's a quote from the New Yorker article by Seymour Hersh that blew the lid on the White House planning-
"One of the military’s initial option plans, as presented to the White House by the Pentagon this winter, calls for the use of a bunker-buster tactical nuclear weapon, such as the B61-11, against underground nuclear sites."

But that's really what's going to cause the problem... because it's 'small' it'll be justified, to some anyways.

I believe the first guy to mention bunkerbuster bombs said something about mushroom clouds, implying the explosion and thus ensuing radiation is not contained underground. He also said "biggest mushroom clouds since nukes", thereby implying he is not talking about bunkerbuster nukes.

no
it is explosive
nothing is radio active about it
its kinda like a 500lb bomb times 40 that will hit the ground and go boom
no radation is emmited
only problem is it is still a proto type

but they also have a 747 that is carrying a onboard lazer that can be used to shoot down ICBMs
the only problem is the first 1 isnt supposed to be delivered to the military until 2008 i think
it might be soon enough to help with North Korea if they are so stupid as to acctualy try something but sadly not soon enough to help Isreal probably

Wrong.

In order to be fully contained, nuclear explosions at the Nevada Test Site must be buried at a depth of 650 feet for a 5 kiloton explosive — 1300 feet for a 100-kiloton explosive.2 Even then, there are many documented cases where carefully sealed shafts ruptured and released radioactivity to the local environment.

Therefore, even if an earth penetrating missile were somehow able to drill hundreds of feet into the ground and then detonate, the explosion would likely shower the surrounding region with highly radioactive dust and gas.
Proponents of building a new generation of small nuclear weapons have seldom been specific about situations where nuclear devices would be able to perform a unique mission. The one clear scenario is using these warheads as a substitute for conventional weapons to attack deeply buried facilities. Based on the analysis here, however, this mission does not appear possible without causing massive radioactive contamination.
