Most people that signed will still buy it, similar to the L4D2 boycott where plenty of people claiming to be boycotting it still preordered.

Read the whole thread, so you don't embarrass yourself.
This could get interesting.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
This reminds me of that Arby 'n the Chief episode where there was a glitch and all the players start rioting and committing suicide.

Just read a post on Tek-9..
the worst part is that they can just shut the servers down and say "go fuck you, buy mw3" and i am sure they will.
Different for a few reasons. Many L4D player thought that L4D2 would mean than the first game would not be supported any more, Valve has proven that wrong. Many thought that it did not have enough new times in it to warrant a sequel, Valve have proven them wrong. L4D2 had a boycott on it after it was announced, however Valve had months to better articulate their intentions with this new game and show consumers that it is a product that will be worth buying.edlT wrote:

IW on the other hand let this shit slip 23 days before a the game hit, so people who previously didn't know about this new (can't think of a word, "feature" sounds too nice, let's call it a Sexually Transmitted Disease) STD. This STD ruined one of the games main features and selling points for most people. Now IW only has 3 weeks to convince people that this STD isn't so bad, and they have to do this without any demo or beta.
So sorry my analogy wasn't up to your standards but I'm sure you get the point anyways-plenty of people, like specialist for example, signed that and he never planned on getting it for the PC in the first place; therefore they're not losing $60 from him for example.
Generally with things like this people will often be quick to whine and complain, but will then end up getting it anyways for whatever reason, meaning you cannot say they're losing $60 per person on that petition.
While I disagree with what you said about L4D2 (they didn't prove that they're still supporting it, they released a shitty, short campaign; I'm still not getting it myself), that's completely irrelevant. Fact is, people tend to cry and then succumb to the pressure of getting a new game anyways, or sign a petition when they never actually wanted the game in the first place. A lot of people joined the L4D2 boycott for other reasons-they wanted to join the bandwagon, find something new to complain about, peer pressure, etc. While Valve for example may have swayed the hearts of many fans into getting L4D2, the number of people who changed their mind is small in comparison to the number of people who were just bullshitting when they claimed to be planning on boycotting it.
Point is, IW hasn't lost $60 per signature on that petition. I'd be surprised if their average loss is over $1 per signature, all things considered.

If IW have killed the MP then the game is going to be pirated like crazy.
It's that simple.

Anyone else able to picture some die hard fan topping himself as a result?

Does IRL count as a dedicated server though?M.O.A.B wrote:

We could make it into a TV show. Gamer Wars. It'd be like that movie.Bell wrote:

they pretty much screwed PC gamers. more than likely i got a hunch consolers are next
With no dedicated servers, one thing I hadn't first realised is that we'll probably also see Massive server maintenance days (like bf2 stats servers) and no one can play for hours. Or while they force an update of the software patches through steam (you ever think I'd rather play version 1.3 but can't thanks to steam...?)
(maybe) If the player who starts the server gets some kind of moderator powers, then you'll get lots of admin abuse.
Or, No admins would just lead to mic spamming, team killers and hackers that go unchecked.
