Have been looking forward to this for a long time.

First thoughts?

Movement is incredibly slick. Basically 360 degrees, a lot more responsive and quicker.

Passing is greatly improved. Quicker on the trigger and much sleeker to pass the ball around.

Through balls - Improved. Not vastly, but noticeably. If you played FIFA09, you would have noticed that when the player calls for it, it's best to give a straight pass instead of a through ball, not anymore. It works better with through balls.

Crossing -
Fucking hell does this work now. I've scored most of my goals with crosses. It's fantastic, really. One example:
Henry passes it to the center, about 20 yards outside of the box, to Ibrahimovic, who gives a slightly overrun through ball to Messi, but, Messi reaches it JUST before it goes out for a corner and lets go a one touch cross. It floats over the goalkeeper, curling outwards, straight to Ibrahimovic, who towers over the defender and nails it into the goal. Fantastic shit.

Shooting -
Now, this is where I am a tad confused. The ball certainly feels more weighted, and the shots more power-aware. But the problem is, it's fucking hard to score. If you don't hit it when the guy is on his other foot so he can gain a bit of balance whilst sprinting, the ball is going to end up in the stands or well past the goal. It's frustrating, but I think I am starting to get the hang of it. You can now really score low and powerful goals, which is fantastic. You can even toe poke it in (yeah, really. Del Piero was running onto the ball but was not reaching it in time, so he toe poked it into the bottom corner). I must admit, once you score an outside of the foot shot with Ibrahimovic, it feels fantastic, even if you're a bit frustrated.

Graphics -
The tweaks are quite noticeable. Players have a thinner build in general, running is now varied, stands look better than ever, the nets have small improvements. Looking real good.

Defending -
Now, FIFA 09 had a problem. It was too easy to defend. Not anymore. It takes effort, timing and a strong defender to take hold of the ball. It actually requires skill now because players are so much more mobile in the game.

New features

Blocking -
Now, this is easily the best feature added to FIFA 10. Defending gets so much more grittier now with blocking. A goo defender will throw whatever they can at the ball to block it from being crossed or shot. For example, a curling cross was coming in and Puyol miss timed it so he had to chest it, but it wasn't a clean chest, and so he dove for the ball and headed it away. If he hadn't, then the striker would have easily put it in the back of the net.

Flow of the game -
This is quite nice, if not very noticeable. Quick freekicks can be taken now, referees show the cards during the game etc. It's quite nice.

Heading -
This is fucking awesome. So realistic now. With defensive headers and attacking headers very different, with different players being able to find a player with a header or not. Power comes into play and body strength. Puyol, for example, won it from big Ibrahimovic because of his strength and timing. One thing about it to note is that it's not a question of just hitting X to header it, if you have to seriously consider how the player is placed and how early you want to header it.

Goalkeepers -
Fucking hell. The improvements are drastic in this area. The clearing of corners with punches, the peddling back to save a chip, the long distance saves and 1 on 1s, it's really something quite incredible, if a bit annoying when trying to score.

I coud write a lot more about it, but I frankly want to get on and play it. It's fantastic. The best yet.

One niggle, that is completely EAs fault. Their ignorance for player ratings is still there. For example:
Iniesta is 86 (he should easily be 88)
Xavi is 87 (what?)
Bojan is 77 (wtf)
Ribery is 85 in the defaults position (um....)
Marquez is better than Pique.
Ashley Cole is faster than Messi
Messi is still only 90.

A bit annoying considering those players are certainly better. I am sure Live Season will fix all that.

I am definitely looking forward to the release of this.

Main problem with 09, Messi was way way too weak. Slow bulky defenders almost always had messi in their pocket

Awesome, defiantly some great improvements.

Only played one game, Barca v Chelsea, just after kick off I stormed down the pitch pass after pass, and played an awesome through ball to Henry (thought to myself - easy goal now) shot, and the keeper pushed it back out only for it to reach MESSSSIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, over. Pretty even game I had another clear cut chance later on and went for the placed shot, and hit the post.  Eventually won 3-2 on penalties.

Lol Drogba's shite on FIFA 10

Although Cech made the most incredible double save from a Barca player and Carvalho trying to head into his own net. Parried the first shot then got up and tip the own goal attempt onto the post and then he dived onto it. If only we could upload demo replays..

Definately getting this, annoying that I forgot to bring the Xbox back home after the summer vacation... I guess I'll have to go get it on Saturday or something (the XBox I mean).

heh, 2nd game 1-1 then 5-3 on penalties.

Actually scoring was fun, Henry from the corner of the 6 yard box, just slipped it in off the near post.

Big deal so they didn't make every single Barcelona player have a rating of 100 boo hoo...

I'm downloading the demo now. I've heard there's quite a few teams in it. I hope it's not just one half and that lasting 2 minutes. What's the point of having a 2 minute demo and then including like 10 teams. Fucking 1 gig for a demo which will probably last 2 minutes...

Oh, just one problem.

Blast it from 30 yards out, keeper has to dive, full stretch and just about tip it over the bar, this warrants a "and that's no trouble for the keeper" comment.

Meh, one thing I don't like is the fact that players stamina is fucking terrible.

Messi sprints for like 3 seconds and his bar is down fully. Since when have you seen him do that? Same with Ribery. They can't hold their runs, which is highly unrealistic. Stamina should be increased for all players, it's a bit poor right now.

Thanks for the write up, hadn't even thought about this game before today, can't wait! (Shame I wont be able to whoop you xbox fags though, ps3 ftw)

I pretty much only play manager mode so the ratings thing doesn't bother me, headers and crosses sound good.

Question, have they fixed that fucking annoying bug where a player won't run once he has been given a lobbed thorughball and is in the clear? Like you would put a striker thorugh with a lob, he'd watch it go over his head and there would be a delay once you select him before he started to run.

Holy shit. Major problem.

Player heights are completely off. Messi is an inch shorter than Ibrahimovic. I mean, wtf. That really pisses me off, because height is such an important thing in football and makes it to much more satisfying playing around with different sizes of players, but after seeing this....

Does the 360 degree dribbling/movement have a great improvent??

Hm, I have a few more niggles with this game.

It IS better than FIFA09, but it has some things that are just a bit "wtf".

First of all, the focus on key players, like FIFA09 (when you could use C.Ronaldo and Rooney well, or Xavi and Messi, you would win more easily) has decreased a bit. Which defeats the purpose of having higher rated players. Now, it's not completely disappeared, I can still score stunning goals with Messi (he has strong body strength when dribbling and it's REALLY hard to get him off the ball) but I feel it's lacking. For example, Ribery, the key man for Bayern, is nothing in this game. He is in a stupid position and basically hovers around waiting for rebounds, which is just shit. Xavi, another one. FIFA09 gave him the gift of perfect through balls and stuff, now he just sits there, he does pass well, but never gets in a decent midfield position to give those beautiful passes.

Which brings me on to another thing. On World Class mode, the midfield just swarms with CPU players, which is really unrealistic for a large pitch. It's hard to find space with Xavi and stuff, when it should be easy to turn and pass if just at the half way line. Bayern isn't a team to close down quickly, yet I find myself swarmed 24/7.

Now, the last thing: Dribbling. Although FIFA have seriously improved on this. It's a real wonder watching the player being able to move "nearly" 360 degrees, but there are problems with it. It's still hellishly hard dribbling past players whilst sprinting and not using the skill stick. Which is just stupid, as Ribery, Anelka and the sorts should be able to pull that off with some ease. So you have to resort to the skill stick, which DOES WORK..... usually.... It's the way it's been set out. To activate the skill, you have to hold LT and then move with left stick and do skills with R. It just seems a bit much and bit of a nuisance. It takes time and effort to master a simple stepover to fool defenders, but once you have it, it works great (I just give it to Messi, get past the wingback and then drive inside) but it's too complex to enjoy with much success. Sure, if you spend 20 hours straight practicing you're going to get good, but this should be a few hours and you can master some nice moves. Not so.

I also think it would be really amazing if the better dribbling players were given the ability to do their skill moves whilst sprinting. Would make the game a lot more interesting and realistic. I haven't seen a dribble been executed at job pace in real life (which is how you have to do it here).

I just wish the dribble stick was JUST R and that would make it so much easier. And then you can hold LT and tap R to do the extras where he hits it forward and shit. PES seems to have gotten the idea with dribbling, although it doesn't work in it, they know how to execute the controls, whereas FIFA is still struggling. You can't map them either

It's quite good I like it quite a lot, I really got fed up with Pro Evo with the fucking cyborg players Messi, Kaka and Zlatan being almost impossible to tackle unless head on or sliding. I mean the highly rated players don't seem that unstoppable which is sort of a good thing. I tell you what though the passing and through balls in this just work. I've rarely had a ball go somewhere I didn't intend, it seems almost too easy compared to Pro Evo. Interceptions are actually possible which balances out the pin point passing which is great. I've still not got the hang of crosses though.

Pro Evo developers have seriously got to up their game the last two were awful. As much as I am used to the controls I'm asking for more than just a little update on there last game they need a overhaul!

By the looks of it, Pro Ev 10 doesn't look good either.
