I just repaired my soldering iron (of which the whole tip assembly had come loose) with two pens.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Nah, the clip thingies are made out of metal.

I was sick of my RAM running hotter than the sun, so I modded myself a fan out of a spray paint lid, an Intel cooler fan, some cardboard and a fan mesh. The RAM is now cold to the touch with 2.3v running through it.

I'll buy a proper one when I'm back in England, but I can't be fucked paying stupidly high postage right now when I'll be back in under a month.

Then get some chrome and some spinners and you're sorted.

I need to start doing some ghetto mods. So I can get more cooling in my system. Some of these mods are really good, and are giving me some ideas.

I was having a slight problem with my G5, because I put my thumb all the way at the bottom I'd have to grip the sharpish edge which would get painful after a while. I almost bought a new mouse but then Dauntless came along and said "Lucien! just file off the edge!" and so I did

thanks to sandpaper and a pair of scissors the area where I put my thumb is now nice and flat. a pretty good result for my first "ghetto mod", I think

Good idea. My thumb, however, just sits in the groove.

Shall I explain what's going on here?

In my manic fumbling about inside my case, swapping HDDs, I must have knocked my Graphics card fan. When I start up my computer, it stutters, then doesn't spin. This results with a toasty 55 degrees with passive cooling, looking at the desktop. So what did I do? Unscrewed one of my case fans, sat it on my wallet and a SD card reader pouch, held up by the dust filter from the (unused) case side-fan filter. Voila, room temperature air blowing at my graphics card. Enough to keep it under 90C on load.

Can't wait for Christmas, so I can get my 5770

No wonder it's overheating, clean your bloody case.

When the fan worked it didn't go over 55c on 100% load.
