Swap out the 'Rarity' levels with 'Rare', 'Unique', 'Epic', 'Legendary', 'Bind on Pickup', 'Bind on Equip' and you're there, Valve!

What a moronic and abysmal series of design decisions from their monkey-fucking-stupid design team.

And they're supposed to be working and collaborating with the high-end competitive community? None of my homies would ever endorse this needless wankery.
So some kind of potential weapon rarity system that nobody really knows anything about has been found in some files somewhere that may or may not be implemented and you conclude that TF2 is going to turn into an RPG and that Valve have suddenly stopped working on all other aspects of tf2? Nice.
but, but, TF2 = WoW!?!?!?!!!!
We need some 1337 ac1vist h4xors to give everybody the valve/community/rare weapons (with no idling)...

But srsly, the achievements system was much better, if Valve kept up with banning achievement servers.

It's the only logical choice.

After all, no other FPS in history has ever had unlockable weapons.

Because honestly, unless they were doing meth I can't see Valve risking the impact this sort of "hax" would have on their community... worst case scenario for them would be someone cracking/finding a bug and exploiting it, adding these items to everyone who wants it's account...
Well so far nobody has done that to get hats, so I think it's pretty safe.

As for 'vanilla' servers. At the moment, whenever a server cannot connect to the steam servers, sometimes everybody has stock wepaons and sometimes people have the weapons they had equiped but can't change them. So if somebody can find a way of replicating the 'everybody has stock weapons' scenario then a 'vanilla' mode should be easy enough.

Oh, and here's the actual community items line:

"Attrib_Community_Description" "Given to valuable Community Contributors"

damn perfectionism..
But why? They don't do anything. So all you'll achieve is removing your sense of accomplishment. Just wait until they happen.

I think you're being even more reductionist and ridiculous in your argument than the hordes of "Omg TF2 is guna b an mmofps!!11one" kiddies.

It's hardly a simple 'unlockable weapons' that they are proposing, is it? Differing levels of rarity and power/ability? Random chance drops as well as merit-based awards? Sidegrades, upgrades, new class abilities, movement-slowing abilities, stun-abilities... it's not really comparable to swapping out your M16 for an AK47 in Call of Duty 4, is it? Compare the state of play as it is proposed now to the gamestyle and fluid, beautiful simplicity of TF2 during the post-release days... I think some (scaremongering) Forum whiners do have some license to complain. My only serious comment was that there's no way the competitive community would endorse or enthuse about any of these stupid-ass ideas, so I really don't know where Valve are getting their sense of direction and development from anymore. Who is actually demonstrating a desire for this type of change?

If the random weapon drop system simply means that weapons can have certain (balanced) attributes modified then it could work. I'd prefer the ability to just customize the gun yourself though, presuming that there will be such a thing as (very) rare random weapon drops that have really good modifications then yes the game will become that much shittier.

As for TF2 then vs. TF2 now, that's just down to some of the unlocks being terrible. As far as I'm concerned the spy and sniper update might as well be removed altogether, and the scout & pyro updates also need some work.

Very true. It did have a wonderful simplicity to it in those days, and I don't think anybody likes all the movement hinderers that have been added to the game since then either. I'm sure somebody will be able to come up with a vanilla mode, it can't be THAT hard. If people can make game-modes like PropHunt then they can make vanilla. Surely.

As for stuff they bring out, I always find myself being cautiously optimistic about the changes they make, rather than having a knee-jerk reaction to news/speculation. The possibilities excite me, rather than turn me away. If the system the chart refers to comes to fruition, then it would allow everyone to have a slightly unique playstyle. A sense of individuality and customisation.  I could have my own loadout for each class. I think it could be something to look foward to. If it works.

Nope i only have Beaux & Arrows and My Brilliant Career (I reset my stats a couple of time forgetting it affects achievemements).

I've killed the medic then the heavy and vice-versa but it doesn't want to happen for me.

It is because if the medic has time to heal someone else before the heavy dies / someone else heals the heavy before he dies, it stops counting... or maybe it is just plain bugged...

Jesus Christ. They cannot be serious. I had no idea they'd give items out that were so blatantly overpowered and unfair.

I can only hope it's just like that for testing purposes, similar to the Valve weapons are vastly overpowered so they know instantly when they're not working properly.

Always.

ALWAYS

Getting killed by a weapon like that ^ above takes all skill and ability out of the equation. It's World of Fortresscraft. NO ARGUMENT.

I still don't believe Valve would put a weapon like that in the game. They should know better. I say wait and see. They've not announced any of this stuff yet and its still all in the testing phase. So er. Yeah.

Fuck the specifics and whether it's being tested or implemented or not.

It's a stupid fucking concept.

Weapons that give you stat-boosts and extra abilities? Advantages over other players? Weapons that are completely randomly given by the laws of chance?

It just turns a controlled, skilled and refined game environment into a random fraggy mess.

Is there actaully any evidence that the stats those weapons have are actually implemented?

Otherwise they might just be meaningless descriptions put in for shits'n'giggles. More of a thing that shows you contributed the community, a prize for your hard work skinning or mapping.

Edit: just read the two posts above
