True, but I don't think there's any way using filters to get that effect to look good.

Subtle filter usage is fine, it often adds a lot to an image, but the shit 13 year old girls do on facebook with their MBPs is obnoxious and hideous. The worst part is that they get mad props for it.
No argument here with the overusage. But nearly every jaw dropping photo has had some sort of filter applied to it at some point. Yes subtle is good. Tis why I didn't think you realized how ofen filters are used. When done right it's not obvious.

.. and illustrator is the best for that effect. It can be mimicked in ps with the help of filters but it would take longer. .. much longer.

You won't ever hear me talking bad about AI.

I rarely use PS, I much prefer working with Illustrator, it's a lot better for the stuff I do. I get really sick of the people who think photoshop is an all in 1 image editor/creator that can do anything.

Well, it is an amazing bit of software when you think about it. But it is not the end all be all of graphic arts. In fact you probably noticed that a lot of our resident photographers are just opting to use lightroom now.

I love Photoshop and use it for game modding and tshirt design and general graphics...
And i also love AI and have been trying to get as proficient with AI as PS...
Love the basic 3d stuff in AI and the Live Color feature... And making shapes in AI
and importing them into 3dmax to make objects(models)

And i'm liking the deke video guys tutorials... funny and informative...

I have a wacom and i am slowly getting used to it... i have had it for 3 years haha
Been learning After Effects recently and the wacom is cool for tracing for rotoscoping/motion tracking...
I want to get good at stuff like this

If I had a spare 1/2 grand, those would be one of my first purchases.

however, I'm trying to get rid of my graphire, because regardless of how much I practice I can't draw nearly as well with it as my mouse.

On topic - There is no end all be all "graphics" program. There is a reason why Adobe has put much effort into allowing there programs to work so well together. Certain tasks are best completed using several of them and the features they perform best.
