BF2S Forums New PS3 Slim coming - $299

Because it's cheaper, and was much cheaper before (in terms of base value). Because it came out like 1 and a half years earlier. And because the PS3 had a poor games library when it was launched and for awhile after that, compared to the 360.

Also Microsoft have the financial prowess for massive marketing amongst other things.

It's not rocket science as to why the Xbox is more popular. It's a simple gaming console for people who just wanna shoot shit. It's like why the Wii is raping the other two consoles, because it appeals to a much wider audience. The same goes for the 360. It built itself on targeting the American audience with loads of FPS games and shit like that.


But the main thing is price, more specifically, the price you see on the website, or on the shop floor. It's cheaper than the PS3. And it was for a very long time, by some amount.

You might see the PS3 pick up sales now that the price has dropped, but even if it does get close to the X360 by the time that happens the 360 will have been 5-6 years old. Maybe more and they'll probably release the Xbox 720 or something.

Sure it's a bonus on paper but in all practicality... no ty.

Technology changes. I assume you don't have a DVD drive as it will get replaced in couple of years. You still on floppy?

Bluray to HD is what Beta-Max was to VHS. Directly competing technologies. Blu-Ray won't disappear because the technology will get better and move on, it will be dwarfed by an overall-superior competing technology. The consumer and industry take-up on Blu-Ray just hasn't been successful enough... ergo: the 'exclusivity' of the feature on the PS3 is pretty redundant.

You wouldn't know though because you don't have a 360 and are blatantly biased. From what you've said in the past you barely even play on your PS3, but I guess because you have one it makes it superior.

Yes, older Xbox's break a lot. Denying that would be stupid. They get sent out, you get reimbursed with XBL time for the time you didn't have your console, and you're okay. Some people can actually live without their console for a few weeks.

Not fucked at all? Not everyone needs Blu-Ray, even to this day. Not everyone has an HDTV.

The Wii doesn't have Blu-Ray either yet it's outselling the PS3 and 360 combined by an almost 2:1 ratio.

I think eventually Blu-Ray will become the standard but who knows. Apparently MS (or some other company) has a 100 gb disk coming out so we'll see if MS adopts that for their next console.

Ted I think your a bit stuck in the past. The last years worth of PS3 games have definately been easily comparable if not better than the list of 360 games. This shite games argument really fails.

The reason the 360 has been doing better is simply it has a lower price. I don't know anyone that wants a console that doesnt want a PS3 but many of them cant afford it so have got themselves a wii or 360.

The Xbox RROD failure-rate is a bit of a scapegoat for the Wii/PS3 fanboys, because it is frankly a massive fuck-up on the part of Microsoft and their product quality/guarantee. Having said that though, Marine is right... people buy the console because they all round prefer it as a consumer's choice, not just because it's a handful of cash cheaper. On the same stroke, I think Vilham's argument that the PS3's unpopularity is because people "can't afford it" is bullshit. The PS3 is not the Bentley of consumer electronics. If somebody preferred and desired the Playstation 3 over the Xbox360, then they would put money aside for a week longer and get the PS3-- customers don't often sell themselves short when it comes to gadgets. It's just not the trend. If someone wants a 50" TV and a PS3, they'll put that shit on layaway or buy it on credit. They won't buy a 40" and an Xbox360 because it will save them $200 that month.

I think that, even with the high failure rate and the systemic problems that the 360 has, it's just the best all-round choice for the casual gamers market, in every respect. Price, compatibility, range and selection of games, features and online options, etc. The Wii is a family-gaming gimmick, riding high on the sales figures because of it's 'unique' novelty, and the PS3 is a more expensive and not all-too-attractively different option from the Xbox. The PS3's exclusive features and titles just don't snag enough of the casual-console majority. The pricing isn't too exclusive or expensive, but when the price-tag you're coughing up for only basically promises you a console with 3-exclusive games worth playing, with an online service that pales in comparison to XBL and nothing much else worth yelling about (yes, yes, Blu-Ray... 99% of people do not care), people just aren't sold on the deal.

I'm babbling on about what 99% of this thread has (predictably) devolved into.

Who gives a fuck about a slim PS3? All it did for my PS2 was make my living room look slightly sleeker. Product reinvention get-money-quick bullshit.
